A Box of Virtuous Defenses, a charity PDF project, is accepting submissions. The 'Box' is meant to put the Mature squarely at the front of 'mature gaming', by addressing group consent and understanding (a subset of which is player control over how personally a character will be touched by 'vile' themes), and realistic defenses within a game world into which a GM inserts the ideas of torture, rape, possession, etc. The product is tentitively to be produced by Emerald Press, and proceeds will benifit anti violence charities.
Submissions to the Box of Virtuous Defenses can fall into one of two catagories. One is the standard crunch of any D20 supplement. Spells, feats, equitment, prestige classes, etc all focusing on the defensive side of a mature or vile campaign. Stat out a masterwork chastity belt, or a PrC for a messenger who cannot be tortured or magically compelled to reveal his information. Write the spells a wizard would want his bardic daughter to know when she is playing in a seedy bar. Follow the inclusion of R-rated themes in a fantasy world out to its logical end, and send the results. The second catagory of submissions is personal annecdotes about ways in which mature themes have been used either well or badly, in your expereince. Whether its a horror story from a group you never returned to, an example of how things worked out well in spite of (or because of) touchy material, or just the guidelines which have worked best for you, out of game interaction is just as important to mature gaming as the rules you use to implement it.
