Well, yeah, obviously after manufacturing costs go down and late in the console's life, they do make money off them (except the original Xbox, I believe, due to how MS licensed the technology from Nvidia), but I was meaning new consoles, not old ones.

You're missing the point of the article. Most of them are not being sold at a loss, new or old, early or late in the product cycle. The whole point of revisions like the PSOne or the slimline PSTwo is to minimize production costs and you can be dammed sure that Sony didn't do it so they'd be loosing money on them. I'm personally dubious as to exactly how much money if any Sony will actually be loosing on the PS3. If they are loosing any money, I'm sure it's not a lot.
