Chessex Limited Edition Borealis Dice

Has anybody gotten the new Borealis Dice from Chessex? I'm thinking of getting at least one set, but since $ is tight, I'd like to hear some reviews. How do they really look in person and what colors are the coolest? From what I've seen on the web in pics, I like the Clear, Purple,& Blue best. Also, what places on the web are selling them? I've only seen them on Ebay and at DEI. Thanks for the help. :)

They sell them here. It also gives a little back to ENworld (just bought some more dice from here a few days ago and the service is great). I have also purchased from www.roleplayer.com in the past. They have prices that are a little better but it takes much longer to get your items (10-14 days vs. 3-5 @ base shipping).

I own the purple & orange sets and have seen the clear, green, red and blue @ my comic shop. They are all pretty cool. They look kinda girly at first because they seem to have some sparkles in them but upon closer inspection this is not entirely true. The effect is that of a constellation seen through a high powered telescope or (as the name suggests) an aurora borealis viewed in a place with low light polution.

I purchased the orange set because I have a thing for orange dice (don't ask). I picked up the purple set because I needed something purple and they looked cool. You can't go wrong with the blue set or the red. The green looked good, but I have seen cooler looking green dice like these & these. The clear aren't bad either but I would go with a set of frosted dice (better price, simply cooler looking) before I bought the clear Borealis set.

Hope that helps. Happy rolling.

And yes, I have too many dice.

Wow, these dice are great! I personally think the clear are the best looking (oh, and I'm female too, if that makes a difference - this is gariig's gf), but I actually bought all sets, even though money is tight over here.

I personally like the clear, purple, and blue ones the best, but that's because they show the multicolored sparkle the best. I'm a big dice freak but it was completely worth it to me. These are the best looking sets of dice I own, short of my Dwarven Stones. :)

Now I'm negotiating a special dice bag with the Gamer's Bag, they're great people :D

I got all of the borealis sets as part of my bday present last month, they really didn't impress me much. The purplish set is kind of pretty, but I agree with Gariig's girlfriend that the clear ones are the coolest ones. The rest, especially the orange are really ugly and remind me of those ugly super bouncy balls you could get in a gumball machine at KMart growing up (I'm 29 now if you don't remember those).

I think the Teal Translucents are the nicest looking dice Chessex currently makes, though the Raw Transparent Smoke and Light Blue sets might look really cool when I decide what color crayon to use to highlight the number etchings.

Most of my collection stays in shoe boxes in the closet, currently 18 1/2 boxes with a box added every 3 or 4 months, but I've recently been using this neat burlap peanut bag I got at a 7-11 store as part of their anniversary summer specials for toting around the dice I use to game with. It had like a pound and a half of shelled peanuts in it, which my boyfriend and the cat ate :p , so it's fairly big, big enough to easily handle almost anyone's collection of dice. There's no drawstring, but I just threaded a shoestring through the burlap and tied a drilled casino die to each end. (For those not into dice collecting, some casinos mark the souvenir dice and card decks you can buy in their gift shops by drilling holes through the center so that a cheater can't load the dice and then switch them into the hands of an unwary dealer. It's more common with playing cards, but I've come across a few sets of dice marked that way, including a whole bunch from a small casino cruise ship a few years ago, one set went in my collection and I use the others for things like the dice bag drawstring). It's pretty neat and very rugged. You can probably find them at your local 7-11, all the stores around here still have a ton of them.
