Chicago Game Day is worth far more than the price of admission! (Wait- it is free- but that is another great reason to go!) I had a fantastic time playing, and met some cool people. Mark's Viking game rocked. Although we had total party death (as more-or-less promised by Mark beforehand!) we came within 4 HP of defeating a demonic giant dude! Instead, he and his little sword likely took over the world- but that is another story... Despite his growling protests to the contrary, Mark is a very player-friendly GM, who runs a creative game, with an emphasis on fast in-character combat. (Move where you're moving! Don't count those squares!) I thought his theme music was fantastic- there was one section where it echoed the sound of giant footsteps... Ejja_1 is a great character player. He spoke in character, acted in character, and (later) attacked his former comdrades in character! (This, of course, after I attacked him- but again, that is another story...) His fighter Helgar rocked in combat- multiple crits in every battle. Wow- a sight to see. Thalmin is a thoughtful player, who clearly considers his actions carefully before acting in character. He proved that even an engineer (Expert Olaf) can be deadly- maxing a crit against a tough croc fighter! And, he earned a life-debt from my character Bjort; unfortunately, we both died soon thereafter... :) In his Curt incarnation, he is also a wonderful host. Having coffee and donuts at the store was way above and beyond my expectations (I ate my share). Curt's store is the biggest and best game store I have ever seen. I picked up a splatbook and UNTIL Powers Database yesterday; I will need more time to return later just to look through the aisles of miniatures!! MattyHelms is a gamer's gamer. He played a class he had never tried before, throwing a druid without spells memorized against a bear twenty feet tall, then had the temerity to challenge Helgar after watching him demolish multiple foes!! After all, Helgar was being controlled by an unnatural demonic sword, and Thoradin was not putting up with that nonsense... I will absolutely plan to attend the next Game Day in October- only the birth of my daughter then will keep me away! Thanks, guys.
