See the occult architecture of Chicago as only Kenneth Hite can show it to you--then play in his Call of Cthulu game and use the knowledge you've gained to survive! This Otherworld Excursion includes a walking tour, dinner at the Hotel Intercontinental, and an original roleplaying session, all guided by Kenneth’s unique flair for all things eldritch and eerie. It’ll be the most fun you’ve ever had peeling back the façade of reality to reveal the squirming horror beneath!
On Saturday, October 8th, 15th, and 22nd, walking tours will depart at 2 pm to view the secret history behind the ornate facades of Chicago’s skyscrapers. At 5, you’ll return to the Hotel Intercontinental—which was constructed as an athletic club for the Medinah Shriners, but may have been built to serve another purpose for their secret masters. After dinner at its Zest Restaurant, you’ll retire to the Onyx Room for an unparalleled evening of roleplaying led by Kenneth, where you’ll see first-hand why he wrote the definitive chapter on “The Joy of Research” for Gamemastering Secrets.
The special introductory price of $175 covers all aspects of this eight-hour experience. To ensure the quality and intimacy of the roleplaying session, the number of tickets to each excursion is limited to six. A game this vivid and intense is certain to create lasting camaraderie between everyone lucky enough to take part in it, and one of the greatest things about roleplaying is how quickly you can get to know someone when you face sanity-blasting horrors together. At the same time, it’s undeniable that many of the greatest gaming sessions involve groups who have already forged bonds as a team. Since Otherworld Excursions is all about great roleplaying experiences, we encourage such groups to journey with us. Each player beyond the first who signs up together qualifies for a cumulative 5% discount, to a maximum of 25% off each ticket for a full group of six. If you want to create a group just for the purposes of qualifying for this discount, more power to you! We’ve always hoped friendships will emerge from our excursions, and it’s better still if they start forming even before the event begins.
This price also includes a $15.00 gift certificate to Mt. Prospect’s Games Plus. As Kenneth says, "Games Plus is the Sears Tower of game shops; it stands head, shoulders, and antennae above all competition." You can use your gift certificate to take advantage of the sale offered by the good folks at Games Plus: 10% off Kenneth's entire body of work, including such notable titles as GURPS Horror and GURPS Cabal. He will be happy to sign these books for you after the excursion, but only if they were purchased at Games Plus. How can he tell? It's yet another of his esoteric talents that continue to defy scientific explanation.
Kenneth Hite’s mighty credentials as a roleplaying freelancer have been earned by writing for more game systems than most people have played. His gift for uncovering weird conspiracies is regularly displayed in the pages of Pyramid Magazine, where his Suppressed Transmissions column is a perennial favorite. He attributes his hermetic insight to having “one of those trick brains that takes SATs well—‘the Templars are to Majestic-12 as the Matamoros murder cult is to...’"
Otherworld Excursions is an exciting new concept in adventure tourism for gamers. Following their launch at Gen Con Indy, Mike Sugarbaker of OgreCave.com wrote, “All the roleplaying cognoscenti at the show were talking about this.” Indeed, Steven S. Long of Hero Games says “One of the most intriguing things I ran across at the show was Otherworlds Excursions”, and noted author and designer Matt Forbes advises “I’d recommend this strongly for those with the means to participate.” Upcoming excursions include the exploration of an abandoned naval base with John Tynes and a weekend of old-school gaming in the studio of Stefan Pokorny using his private Master Maze collection, with more to be announced in the weeks to come.
