Choose your own adventure!

Do you remember those choose your own adventure books growing up? The one where you read a short story per page, then at the end of the page you get several choices and turn to the page corresponding to your choice?

Well the 4e DMG has instructions and advice for playing with few players or with no DM! That, coupled with a few posts here on enworld about single person parties got me thinking if there is a market for a D&D module tailored for single players modeled after a choose your own adventure book.

The idea is somewhat strange to me, because there's no shortage of players in my neck of the woods, but apparently some people are more isolated.

I wonder if people are interested in seeing such a product or if one already exists. 4e with it's second wind mechanic and at-will/encounter powers seem tailor made for this.

Actually, I think something more like the Fighting Fantasy Game Books would be quite possible. I don't know if there would be a market for this - I know there certainly was back in the day.

A major factor in Tunnels and trolls being a popular game, is the fact that they put out solo adventures, in addition to being a normal group playable rpg. I was and still am a fan of the old solo adventure books, but there is only a small group of dedicated fans. I love the idea, but i have a feeling it would sell about as good as their old solo modules, which is not very good, especially since gaming is accessible nowadays what with the internet.

That's what has me puzzled as well. I would think that with the multitude of computer game options out there, there would be no demand for solo adventures.

But just today, I saw on the boards two different posts where they have one player and one DM. Likewise, flipping through the DMG, I saw that it has options to run DM-less games, with basically a dungeon crawl, using a random table to pick rooms and encounters.

I just thought the concept was interesting.

I would definitely purchase this sort of product. I frequently find myself living places where there are no other RPG-ers (I currently live in Muscat, Oman, and will be moving to Surabaya, Indonesia next year). I'm not a huge fan of computer RPGs - I find they tend to inhibit my imagination, rather than stimulate it like pen and paper games do.
