City of Cannibals

chronoplasm

First Post
There is a city ruled by a terrible demon lord and populated by horrible monsters. This population consists mainly of Gnolls and the rare but horrible Phagi and their slaves.

The Phagi are humanoid monsters with a sick face growing out of their stomachs instead of where their heads should be. They will eat the flesh of any living or dead thing. It is only through the command of their demon master that they do not drive themselves to extinction but instead direct their hunger outwards.

The Phagi keep creatures called Sciopods as slaves. The Sciopods look like ugly dwarves that hop around on one leg. They use their massive foot as a fleshy shield.
The Phagi also domesticate creatures called the Grylli. The Grylli look like human heads with reptilian tails and chicken legs growing out from where the neck should be.

OK, so I have the overall idea of how these things should look, but before I start statting these things up I want to have some kind of unified racial power. Any suggestions?

A few ideas:

(Sorry about the sheer amount of X I had to use but I have absolutely no idea what level this is for.)

I am calling anything that is not a phagi but a pet or slave a of the phagi a phagi spawn.

Under the assumption that these things are abberations:

Abberant burst (When reduced to 0 hp)
Close burst X; +X Vs. Reflex; XdX+X damage to any non-phagi in the area. (depending on the level you could add ongoing damage) In addition to this in the main phagi`s abilitiy causes all corpses in the area of the burst to be animated as some sort of phagi spawn.

Abberant regeneration (Personal Favourite) (Immediate interrupt; whenever the creature takes X damage)
The creature grows a new attack (more claws, another mouth, more teeth etc.) and immediately makes an attack with it. From that point on this extra attack is added to its basic attack. (Think really messed up hydra.) If it had one bite attack it before the regeneration it now attacks with two bite attacks, three if this happens again and so on. Note: This is stall a basic attack and takes only one action.

Under the assumption that these things are Demons or devils:

Absorb life (immediate interrupt; when a phagi or phagi kin is reduced to 0 hp within X squares)
Gain half of that creatures max hp, the recipient is also immobilised until the end of its next turn. (Dm decides if this ability is used.

Under the assumption that at least some of these things are undead:

Revenge of the dead (immediate interupt when the creature is reduced to 0 hp)
+X (high dc) Vs. will the creature takes X damage and X ongoing necrotic damage.

I hope I helped

I like Aberrant Regeneration, though I'd probably just make it so that their bite attack deals extra damage when they are bloodied, and then I'd probably rename it something like Gutmaw if that makes any sense.
What do you think?

Also, I'm thinking that some Phagi could get other attacks relating to their mouths, such as tongue attacks, poisonous belches, and acidic vomit. That sound cool?

I think maybe these things could make good aberrant humanoids, but I think they should be able to speak abyssal in order to communicate with the gnolls and their demonic overlords.

I'm using cannibals in my campaign, and I simply took the Norker stats from Thunderspire. I would suggest using their racial power:

Immediate Reaction, when hit in melee, at will - bite.

Alternatively, as a minor action they could bite someone they have hit this round.

As for mouth-related powers, that's cool. I actually think they should be related to role. Soldiers with a grappling, dragging tongue, artillery with an acidic spit (or immobilizing phlem), controllers with a close blast vomit or belch.

Well this power kills two birds with one stone:

Abyssal Rage: (Immediate interrupt when a bite attack hits; recharge 5 or 6)

+X Vs. Will, XdX+X Sonic Damage to all creatures within 10 squares that do not speak, understand or otherwise use the Abyssal language. Secondary attack if the first hits: +X Vs. will The target loeses all hearing for the next X rounds.

And something that is abberant and always fun:

Planar Destabilization: (When a phagi is reduced to 0 hp)

A strange portal is opened to the far realms in the space where the phagi died. An attack on any creature that can see the portal:
+X Vs. will or the target is driven insane (now an enemy under the control of the dm until the end of the battle) by what they see on the other side of the portal. Roll d20. On a 20 an outsider is summoned from the far realms and makes a grab, bite or anything else weird and dangerous on the X nearest creatures (phagi kin included) but before that happens any Non-Far realms outsider (i'm assuming most phagi kin were created on the material plane) must withstand an attack: +X (very high dc) Vs. will or die immediately from seeing the outsider. For the unlucky X closest creatures they must withstand an +X (high dc) Vs. reflex attack or be consumed by the outsider.

If you don't know what the far realms are, they are the place that defys all natural laws and created things such as the gibbering mouther and the beholder. Things there are weird. :erm:

Host transfer: (Immediate interrupt when reduced to 0 hp)

The phagi's (or phagi kin's) animating abberant parasite migrates to a new corpse (within one space) and rises in 1d10 rounds as a new phagi or phagi kin. A dc XX perception check is required to notice this is even happening. if it is the parasite can be stepped on (ac XX) or otherwise hit to kill it before it migrates. (this will be good for a scare when the players first fight the phagi.

Yay Abberations

Sporemine: The attacks from you last post have some great ideas in them, but I think they would be more appropriate for boss enemies.

I think I can have some stats up for you guys later. Thanks for the help! :)

K, stats are good. One other thought:

Poisoned bite (Standard Action, recharge 6)

+X vs fortitude. XdX+X+ Rending corruption:

Rending Corruption
Poison: (unbuyable)

Attack +X Vs. fortitude ongoing X (or XX) poison damage and secondary attack.

Secondary attack +X (easy dc) vs fortitude. If the target dies in the next 76 hours (3 days) It immediately begins a transformation into a Phagi spawn and rises in 1d10 rounds. The body can be burned or otherwise destroyed to prevent this but cannot be ressurected until a (insert healing/curing spell here) is cast on the body.

Yay for poison :)
