Class and Race Creation

First Post
I may be looking in the wrong place, but is there a thread for race/class creation? I'm currently working on a new race (Not subrace) and like to find the right place to get some feedback, thanks!

Affeman
Affemen are a lesser known race, typically keeping to themselves in the trees and living out their day in the name of their monkeys gods. They relate to the Yuan-Ti, having taken the form of their god to become closer to them. They make their temples in the trees tops, using vines to enclose a sacred room of worship. Affemen are not known to ever leave their sanctuary – very people know they even exist.
De-evolution
Most Affemen were once humans, but years of worship to gods of animal shape turned them into a race closer to the image of their deity. They have become a creature that is chronologically between monkey and man. They walk on two legs but with a slight slouch in the upper back. They have a thin layer of hair that covers their entire body, and longer hair on their head and in their facial region. Their feet have built sturdiness to hard ground, having a leathery foot almost. Their molars are slightly more jagged, and they actually have taken to eating a primarily vegetarian diet.
Ability Score Increase Your Dexterity score increases by 1 and your Wisdom score increases by 1.
Age Affemen age and reach maturity at the same pace as humans do, and only tend to live slightly longer than humans.
Alignment The Affemen have become their own race due to their praise to their chosen deity. Most Affemen are typically Lawful to their deity. Tree and Ground Affemen will most likely be Neutral, and Greater Affemen are almost always Evil.
Size Affemen naturally stand between 5 feet and up to 7 feet depending on your subrace (Greater Affemen typically stand between 6 feet and 7 feet).
Speed Your base walking speed is 30 feet.
Acrobat of the Trees Having lived in the trees for hundreds of years, Affemen have grown accustomed to trees as their terrain of choice. All Affemen have a tree speed of 30 feet. You have proficiency in all skill checks dealing with trees, and advantage on all saving throws dealing with trees. You also receive no fall damage from under 20 feet, and resistance against falling damage from under 60 feet.
Divine Primate Praising your deity has led to the ability of channeling their divine power and shape. Starting at level 7, you can polymorph into then primate of your deity as a bonus action once a day. You must take a short or long rest before you can use this ability again. At level 14, you can use this ability 3 times a day; at level 18, you can use this ability 5 times a day; at level 20, you can polymorph freely without need of a long rest. When in the new form, you take the stats of the animal and can still speak common and other languages. (Lasts for 1 hour, until ended by caster, or if the caster reaches 0 hit points)
Languages You can speak, read, and write Common and Affenian. Affenian is a common sounding language with more primate sounds used as vowel sounds. It sounds much more primal.
Subrace Glorifying different deities caused the Affemen to divide into three different subraces: Ground Affemen, Tree Affemen, and Greater Affemen. Choose one of these subraces.

An Apish Form

Bartaz – New World Monkey God, Form of a Howler Monkey
Tree Affeman
Haminan – Old World Monkey God, Form of a Baboon
Ground Affeman
Guuran – Ape Demon Lord, Form of a Barlgura/Orangutan
Greater Affeman

This was just an idea that sparked between a friend and i and I decided I'd try to type it up. I tried to stick to the 5e formatting for race flavor text and what not.

This isn't a complete idea at all, but it's what I got so far

I think it's a great start and perfectly balanced to other races. Come up with, like, 3 abilities per subrace (or bonus proficiency and 2 tricks/features) and you're done!

(Small note: stipulate the size being "Medium" under Size. Just to be exact/clear.)

Personally I have to feel that it is probably a bit too much to be this specific about what sort of monkey they turn into (actually, orangutans are apes, not monkeys like the others so that alone stands out). There are dozens of different sorts of monkeys and apes across the planet. If this is going to be used by a player at all, you may as well go ahead and let them choose their own type instead of trying to specify every imaginable possibility.

I was just aiming for an actual division between old world monkeys, new world monkeys, and apes. More like a primitive human with characteristics of other primates. This is first time I've ever attempted homebrewing so I really appreciate the feedback. Would you suggest not specifying the deity animal form then? Or maybe just keep it to two sides - monkeys and apes?

Well, I can recall two times when D&D has had races that on their surface had a really ridiculous wide possibility for variation, but ended up being hamstringed because ultimately they did have to limit the number of forms artificially in order to assign stats to them.
Those were the Saurians (a really poorly constructed and cynical way of having dinosaur people in the world-- just make furries of a handful of the most popular species) and the Hengeyokai (literally furries with the only seeming limitation being that they be mammals). I suppose you could lump werecreatures in general in there too, AD&D certainly got a lot of mileage out of releasing a new werecritter in every monster book they put out.

But, on the flip side you have things like Rakasta/Catfolk or Lizardfolk where... details aren't really so important, its more of the vague idea and it is up to the individual to fill in those small details.

Granted, the concept of "all dinosaurs" or "all mammals" is probably far too wide to really be terribly vague about while "cats" or "lizards" is a considerably narrower band of appearances and the concept all supports the same sort of abilities. But "monkeys and apes" seems like a narrow enough concept that one could just say "the deity was somewhat ape-like with maybe a tail" and you needn't be too specific beyond that. Those twisted by his magics could have all the various fur colors and body dimorphisms of the various primates, maybe even combinations that don't actually exist in any real primates (or, at least the ones that have been scientifically recorded). The deity (and I would really suggest just one instead of a dozen simply because you'll just end up with the overwhelming majority of them never being used and effectively just becoming meaningless filler in a way a proper deity never should be) doesn't at all necessarily have to have a precise physical form that everyone can universally agree upon and depicts in precisely the same manner.

The other problem with trying to pull out and trying to differentiate a handful of similar animals in the same group is that you run the risk that in the process of differentiating them from one another that you will make them more different than standard races which are clearly far more different from one another. One can see where this has been done by WotC such as in 3rd edition Wood Elves were as strong as Half-Orcs or in 4th Edition, Half-Elves were as hardy and tough as Dwarfs... neither of these were intended to be the case, but they ran head-long into this situation due to trying to make them different and running head-long into giving them wildly inappropriate stats.
