Class Compendium Playtest What?

What's this about playtesting the Classes in Dragon, the Arcanist/Scoundrel, etc?

Are they redoing them, have they redone them, are these in the character builder, what's going on? Hell, I'm only seeing three from what I can find.

(Playing catchup and not having DDi is a pain :p).

I am not totally sure if they have finished all of them, but they have done 4 or 5 of them thus far. The early ones have been 'finalized' but I have not hear if the last couple have been or not.

As for DDI, I am in the dark about that, too.

Overall, in my game we have decided not to use those revisions.

Under the Class Compendium banner, they've done articles for the Cleric, Fighter, Rogue, Warlord, and Wizard. Not under that banner, but taking the same approach, there was a Warlock article. As far as I know, they don't currently have plans to do Paladin or Ranger articles.

The Cleric (Templar), Fighter (Weaponmaster), and Warlord (Marshal) changes have been finalized and added to the Character Builder.

The Rogue (Scoundrel) and Wizard (Arcanist) articles are still labelled Play-test, though the deadline for feedback on them has passed.

The Warlock (doesn't get a fancy new subclass name) article is finalized, but the changes don't go into the builder until next month's update.

Why? You don't like rebalanced classes that actually function in their role now (Warlock), or the removal/fixing of completely broken cheese (Cleric)? ;)

Honestly though, all they did as part of this was just look at a lot of the PHB1 classes and go through to rebalance them. And that doesn't just mean nerfing, since for the Warlock they actually gave it a huge power increase. Basically, it just brings them all better in line with the rest of the classes in the game, but did it in one big move, rather than a bunch of errata over a year's time.

Note: As a previous poster said, the Warlock was technically not a part of this initiative. However, considering that they gave it basically the same treatment as the other Class Compendium releases, it's basically just a semantic thing.

So did the finalized classes end up in Dragon, or just in the Compendium?

Well, like all content, they end up in the online Compendium eventually. Currently, they are being released on the website, and all the class revisions articles are entirely free.

I don't think there is an easy index of them, but if you go here and look for the articles without the DDI symbol next to them, that should be the easiest way to find them.

MrMyth, cool thanks. I knew they released the Warlock article free, but didn't know they did with the rest.

there's really no reason not to use them unless you're doing pure a pure phb game. the warlock in particular really got some much needed editing, a pure phb starlock is almost unplayable compared to the rogue and ranger.
