Classic Battletech RPG Advice

I was just curious if anyone had experience playing this system. I used to be an avid mechwarrior tabletop player, and wanted to give the system a try. Also, if anyone is familiar with the Battletech universe, any ideas for a merc. corp campaign set in 3058? Thanks!

I have experience with Classic Battletech and the Mechwarrior RPG, but not a Classic Battletech RPG. I can tell you that I loved Classic Battletech and would suggest someone playing a mercenary unit from the 3020-3060 time frame for a long campaign. Start off as a lance and build yourself into a larger merc company over time to the point that your characters look to retirement due to age. We used the Battletech rules for our mech combat and the RPG rules for what happened outside the cockpit.

I ran a game set on the perifery where the Dixie Confederation had automated farms on an entire contenent still functioning, this led to great intrege as the major powers relied on it for much of thier food.I reduced
the forces involved from regiments to lances to represent the reduction of technology and also intoduced the Papacy,a puppet of Kurita,as the villians.Of course the Confederation had alien slaves.
Painted Grey mechs w/ a reverse Confederate flag and yellow 'gloves'
The Papacy had mechs painted like The Pope,Cardinals, priests and Knights Templar.
Used classic Battletech for mechs and GURPS for everything else
The ruling familly (the Lee's)were illiterate by choice

Haha, thanks for sharing some of your stories! Just as an FYI, at some point, they renamed the Mechwarrior RPG to Battletech RPG to avoid any confusion with the new clix line of Mechwarrior. I think I will start them off as their own lance (One member even owns a dropship! Lucky rolls!) Terra has just been taken over by the Word of Blake. Three of the characters are from the Periphery, and the other is from House Steiner. Still trying to decide on the overall enemy for them

Note that there's a new edition of the game: "A Time of War: The BattleTech RPG" which integrates a lot better with the boardgame.

Cheers!
