Clone CD?

When I do a google search for this product, I see LOTS of hits for hacking it to bypass the registration. However, I'm trying to find the legitimate provider of this (or other software that allows you to NOT have to access your CD drive while playing a game; I happen to like to play games with sound off, and play my music in the background)?

A shareware version, or a beta version, or a really inexpensive version would be preferred... (I'm unemployed, and would rather spend money on food and copying my resume', if possible...)

Clone CD really doesn't do what you want, well..ok, that's not true. However, it's very complicated in that you need to know if your CD-ROM and CD Burner can copy CDs so they don't need the CD in the drive. I have successfully made backups of copy protected CDs I own, but I did do a lot of research on what were the best drives at the time.

Well, no No-CD crack for Marble Drop. Darn it. :)

My computer is in the shop (again... hope I don't get rear-ended when I go pick it up this time), but when I do pick it up, I'll have to try the demo for the Clone CD...

Is there a stable, trustworthy freeware program out there?

^That's the clonecd homepage. It's shareware. Doesn't seem to expire. You use clonecd to "read to file" (make an .iso file on your hard drive; the iso is a copy of the cd that can be loaded as a cd).

I haven't tried the virtual drive program that the clonecd makers are pushing.

Instead, I use daemon tools ( http://www.daemon-tools.com/ ). Daemon tools sits in your system tray. It mimics having 1-4 additional cd/dvd drives. You just right click on the daemon tools icon in the systray to load your iso file into the fake drives. DT is freeware if I remember correctly. It also lets you emulate some copy protection methods like securerom and safedisc.
