Code of Honor

Crimslain

First Post
I have been thinking over a code of Honor for my Paladin. I thought it was a good idea from another post. Being that he worships the God of Battle, C. Silverbeard from the Forgotten Realms Book, I felt the standard code needed a little refreshing, so here goes.
1. Protect & further the dwarven people from the ways of evil and greed, let all know your devotion through actions not words.
2. Let your word be your honor, and let no one dispute it.
3. Defense of any mission unto death.
4. Respect legitimate authority, show courtesy to lessers.
5. Death before Dishonor.
6. Personal Glory above all in Battle.
7. Provide help to all those worthy and in need, show no mercy to those unworthy.
Well these are a few ideas I had, pls give ideas freely, as this is my first coide of honor Ive tried and I know it needs some help.

Thank you all,

I also play a Paladin. Mine is also in the Forgotten Realms setting. Oh, by the way, I have a question about your rule number 7. Did you mean that the person "in need" also has to be worthy for you to help them, or do you help people who are "worth" and people who are "in need"?

6. is a little unclear to me. Exactly what do you mean by "personal glory" above all in battle? Sounds like this paladin could be giving in to a little pride.

Ok what I meant by no.7 was to give help to those who have proven by actions that they are worhty of aid. Proven actions would include being righteous and a believer in goodwill towards others and all lawful aspects, being unworthy would be the type of people who would rather accomplish a deed by decieving others through lies and cheating, etc. As for no.6, possibly nix the personal part, add Promote C. Silverbeard through Glory in Battle???

Possible Revise:

1. change the word "actions not words" to "Words and Deeds"

3. i don't like the way this one is written. "Complete any mission even if it means the death of oneself" sounds better to me.

6. "Display glory and honor to C. Silverbeard in battle as befitting a dwarf"

7 . What about enemies who ask for mercy? Do you just slay them? Surrender is a viable option and paladins don't want to slay those who don't have a weapon.

code of honor of heronious (snipped the good ones that might fit):

A righteous warrior always observes the rules of honorable warfare. The tenets of honor and chivalry are to be upheld even in the face of enemies that do not grant the same respects. Never strike a helpless opponent or one who is down and unable to defend himself.

Law and justice are the cornerstones of a righteous society. Never subvert the rule of law in the name of expediency or put oneself above righteous authority.

Relentlessly pursue evil and destroy it, but never let the desire to smite the evils of the world take one outside the rule of law and justice. The ends do not justify the means. <maybe this one?>

Lethal force is not always the best option for dealing with evil. Do not let wrath cloud ones mind to other options that may lead to greater good.

Show the power and righteousness of Silverbeard in every action and word. A righteous warrior can fight evil by providing an example of courage and good to all those who know him. Changing the hearts of men by example is one of the noblest ways to spread justice and law.

Treachery and deceit are the tools of Evil. Avoid them at all costs. Better to die a thousand deaths in the name of truth than to live by lying.

not bad rules. the ones regarding combat and compassion toward the enemies would work for me. Silverbeard is a god of battle and he would more then likely merit out something along those lines...
