Most influential people in the Gaming Industry. He clocks in at #18 tied with Tolkien, but I think should be higher. That fact that a non-video game designer made the list is quite an acomplishment since the focus of Gamespy is electronic gaming. However, like they said, he put fantasy to a framework for gaming.

I think Gygax and Tolkien were far more influential than John Romero.

More influential than Romero in the (electronic/PC/console) gaming industry? Well, I'm not a Romero fan, and these types of lists are always subjective, but I'd have to strongly disagree.

Regardless, considering Gary ranks right around the likes of George Lucas and John Romero on their list, I really don't think there's any reason to gripe. They haven't even touched upon most of the big names yet (Shigeru Miyamoto, Sid Meier, etc).

Oh, I almost forgot.... congratulations, Gary!

I don't know. The first video game was Spacewar which predates Star Trek and Star Wars and isn't fantasy at all. A lot fo popular games BITD on the PDP-10 were Trek ripoffs so maybe Gene Rodenberry should be on there.

Someone gave me the heads-up on this earlier today, and I was quite astonished

The person posting me suggested I might have gained a higher ranking, but I responded being #18 on that list was quite a feat in and of itself. I added that if the LA MMPO RPG goes on to fruition, manbe that would bump me a notch or two in a later such survey
