Unlike a lot of people here I art does little to influnce my use or enjoyment of a RPG book. I realy don't care what the art is unless it detracts from the book by being blantantly horrible or of the natural to offend my ratter loose morals.

Either/Or, I don't really mind.

If forced to pick one, I'd probably come down on the side of black and white, only because then I can then attribute colours to it when using them as campaign illustrations :)

some days it's hard finding fighter illo's with the correct colouring to belong to a nations military.

My criterias for arts:

1°) It must be pretty
2°) It's better in colors
3°) Better no art than poor art

I find that I don't really look too much at the art in gaming products. The book is there to be a reference. Being a pretty reference is nice, but I'd prefer to pay less and have it be less spectacular.

Depends on subject, B&W is nice as long as it is good and is general but if you expect it to 'show' something like a monster you better use VERY descriptive adjectives if you don't use color!

Colour for looking at, Black and White for printing (with the exception of some maps and character portraits).

As long as it's nice art, I don't really mind. Generally, I like B+W art better because it photocopies better, making it easier to make my own 'You See This!!' sheets and the occassional bit of character art if something in the book looks very much like a character I'm playing; I can copy it, snip it, and put it in the charatcer folder.

I am utterly ignorant about the actual printing costs or going rate for color vs. b+w art. If it actually make a significant difference in price for the book, go with B+W. For instance, if Book XX with normal paper and B+W art costs $20.00 vs. slick paper and color art throughout at $35.00, I'd prefer the $20.00 version, myself.
