Combat Maneuvers!

GrumblyBear

First Post
Hello, everyone. I'm fairly new to Pathfinder, and I had a few questions. How often do combat maneuvers come into play?
Specifically, I'm talking about grapple, trip, disarm, feint, and the like.
I'm trying to decide what feats to take, and I was curious if any of the Improved (combat maneuver) feats were worth it.
Thanks much!

A lot will depend on what you have in mind for your character. If you are intending to build a fighter or such that makes heavy use of grapple or trip or disarm, then the improve X will be very worthwhile. If you do not plan on using any of those often, then you can hold off on taking the feats.

I was planning on building a monk. Our entire group is fairly new, so we don't use the "advanced" combat maneuvers much, but I was thinking about trying to change that.
I really only foresee disarm being effective... Is grapple any good?

I ran a monk for a while, and about half the time he was doing combat maneuvers, if not Flurry of Blows. I especially like the new Combat Maneuvers in the Advanced Players Guide: Dirty Trick, Drag, Reposition and Steal.

Improved Trip and Improved Grapple are pretty important, if you take no other combat maneuver feats.

If you are playing monk then I would lean towards doing some of the improves. Improve Grapple at the least.

Combat Maneuvers have streamlined rules (as compared to 3.x) so as a result, are much more frequently used in PF.

A grappling focused Monk is a BEAST!
