I'm looking over the crummy selection of at-wills my friend's half-elf warlock can choose and noticed that the warlord at-will is actually kinda nice for him.

But only if it works the way I think it does.

Basically, there is no mention of range, sighting or anything except Melee weapon. So I'm guessing the warlock can be at range and pick any ally that is in melee with an enemy and grant them a basic attack.

Is this right?

Unfortunately no, you have to be in range with your melee weapon in order to gain the benefit.

I'm guessing your warlock has a decent int? I would recommend some of the wizard powers, for example scorching burst is a great one to add a little AOE to your abilities.

Standard Action Melee weapon

It's a melee power. You have to be in melee to use it. This question has come up over and over and has been clarified by WotC people.

No, must be in melee. But still worth considering as a safety for when your Warlock gets caught in a melee situation.
