Community plays D&D on NBC last night

Thought it was great--and despite the over-the-top moments, my non-gamer wife was sufficiently intrigued that we had a real, in-depth conversation about RPGs for the first time ever. Usually she just shrugs and says "I don't get it." Community as a gateway, gotta love it.

I am going to write something up and pass it up the chain at WOTC. I think that it would be great if they could send some staff down to the NBC set and do a D&D game with that cast just like they did with the Robot Chicken people.

They could film it and release it in 30 to 40 min drops every week or so like they did before.

I've seen a couple episodes of this show, and found it to be a wannabe 30 Rock that just doesn't measure up. THIS episode, however, was brilliant. I'm not sure how the writers finally found their stride, but if they can keep up this level of quality then I might just become a regular viewer.

[sblock]The loss and...er...molesting of the magic sword--hilarious!!--took me way way back to a time one of my first D&D characters lost a very kick-ass intelligent axe when it failed a save versus some aoe attack. There was an audible gasp around the table, and a general pall hung over the group for the rest of the night. I tried to shrug it off, but when I got home that night I actually did cry. (I was 12 gimme a break :D)

Dan Harmon, one of the show's creators, is actually one of the geniuses (and voice actors) from the epic "Summoner Geeks." Many in the fanbase suspect that the books shown in the episode actually belonged to Dan Harmon.

Something tells me the The Caverns of Draconis is going to be an eBay commodity for a while. ;)

They got a great many things about what makes a session good or bad in there, such as selfish players ruin it for everyone, and the best sessions are when the stakes are high, everyone works together & is able to contribute meaningfully, and the victory, should it come, feels earned.

Wow, long sentence.
