If he's trying to stand in the middle, he's done so while voices around him have shifted his Overton window so much his idea of the middle is wildly skewed.Ernie would do well to write another apology and then run it past an editor. It is frighteningly easy to lace them through with justifications and self-pleasing reinterpretations of what went down, rather than focus on the recognition of having hurt others, concern for their hurt, and the endeavor of being better going forward.
