While I think I was a pretty progressive kid in my thinking at the time and had nothing bad to say about his identity itself, what I told him was basically, "this is South Texas, and if anyone sees you outside of that place you're going to get beaten or killed."So it's said, you ran a risk in that place and in that time just walking through town with dyed hair or a non-conforming haircut. I'd been jumped, chased by pickup trucks, harassed by cops, etc., mostly just for a haircut or a t-shirt. So I wasn't entirely wrong that it could result in something like that... but I didn't try to help. I didn't help them find a ride to get there and back. I didn't offer to go myself as backup, like I would've done for friends having to go do anything around hostile rednecks (I was underage, but that place wouldn't have cared).Most importantly, though, I didn't validate what they were saying to me. I didn't just act as a friend. I don't know what became of them, and the whole thing bothers me to this day, and it informs my approach to my work in games and in my life otherwise.When I see people like EGG, Jr. and these other two clowns doing and saying things like this, no matter what their personal issues, histories, and hang-ups happen to be, it sickens and infuriates me. They're not just bad friends, like I was. They're the rednecks in the trucks.</blockquote>
