Companion for a Drd/Rgr

A ranger does not get an animal companion at all until 4th level. But if he also has druid levels, do the early ranger levels still count toward "effective druid level" for purposes of the companion? In other words, does the companion of a Drd2/Rgr2 get evasion?

I think not till level 4. I think it's bad that it's not addressed, but, for instance, Uncanny Dodge for a rogue/barbarian doesn't jump to Improved until the character fully qualifies for Uncanny Dodge in each class.

I'd say no since the Ranger doesn't have the animal campaion ability yet.
While I don't see it being a huge problem if your DM ruled otherwise, I would tend to agree with what Crothian says here.

I also think that before Ranger 4 there is no Animal Companion ability from Ranger levels, and after that I would probably rule that you stack Druids and Ranger levels for the purpose of calculating the AC's abilities (except that Ranger levels count as half).

I don't know, perhaps it could be possible to rule that you get 2 Animal Companions separately?
