... and they are ugly. I can't believe the bad paint work and bad sculpts. The sets should be getting better and not worse.

I thought there where several that are good or pretty good. But the charecter oriented ones all seemed weak.

I have almost all of them, and in real life, they aren't quite as bad. I am satisfied with this line, and I even find several of them quite awesome cool, ups awesome.

Of course, YMMV, as always.

Edit: Now that I think about it, it's probably because I compare them to the old miniatures, that we used to paint ourselves (back in 2e) and frankly, anything looks good to something I have painted

I like a lot of them, with the Oni winning Best of Show. Damn that mini is awesome.
Plus I love the dragons, and I'm a real sucker for transparent minis---so it looks like I'm going to spend waaaay too much money on this set.

A lot of these don't even look finished... of particular note are the Goblin Picador and the Lamia who looks like she has make-up smeared over her face. A few of these are good, such as the Vampire Vizier and the Young Red Dragon, but overall colour me unimpressed.

Has Wizards changed sculptors? Or gone with a different company to manufacturer these?

I'm not going to say they look bad, but they do look more toy-like and just "different" somehow than the other sets.

I wondered the same thing (whether Wizards changed "painters"), as I think these look crude and simple compared to some of their other sets. In fact, I'd go so far as to say the paint scheme (especially the facial paints on humanoid creatures) looks terrible.

I have a Q about minis. never seen em irl.

to start out my 4E games cheaply, i plan to use some DnD minis to represent PCs and cardstock counters to represent mobs (these http://www.warehouse23.com/item.html?id=WWP16040)

will they sizes be OK?

Also if some of my PCs are uncommon and some are commons, will they be different sizes?
