[Completely OT] Fall from Great Height

What is the effect of a fall from a excessive height on a human?

Does a person pass out? Die (before impact)?

When I say great height I mean from Empire State building height +

The reason I ask is to settle a long lasting dispute. If possible please cite sources, but the word of a medical professional should do.

Thanks to everyone for your attention, and if it matters, this could help for implementing rules in a game for falling from extreme heights (other than "you take 578d6 damage!")

I've heard stories of both. Some people have passed out and some haven't. Some have had heart attacks on the way down. Can't site anything, but I don't think it's 100% any one way.

In the game, you might have them make a Will Save DC 10 to see if they pass out or not.
