compression/expansion

has there been any word on how to use these with creatures who dont start off at medium size?

Now, normally I wouldnt have any problem with just sticking to the numbers it says. However, if you start with a small character and compress them once then they have two different size bonuses which may or may not stack (I dont believe that they are listed as stacking).

So you have a power that is effectively worthless for them.

Unless of course it actually makes them one size smaller with 'appropriate' bonuses of the new size.

The same holds true for larger creatures and expansion.

Any thoughts on the matter?

They only grant the bonuses given in the description, definitely not the appropriate changes as advanced monsters do (same as with the spells, the appropriate changes would be way too much for a 1st level power).

I would let the bonuses stack with the natural size bonuses, tho, that just makes sense.

Which is what I said, but it doesnt really make much sense.

Especially with, as written, each doesnt seem to do much of anything for nonmedium size creatures already one step in the appropriate directly.

Very unfortunate. And really, pretty dumb over all ;/

Note that I dont mean to get the different bonuses for stats, that part I feel is as written. But there are special modifiers for attack bonus, ac bonus, hide bonus, and a few others that are based directly on size.

Those are what I am having issue with.

If a halfling goes from small to diminuative they would normally have size bonuses of +4 size to attack and ac, but with the power they instead have just +2 (or +3 if you are nice and let them stack).

The problem is even larger if you start off an even smaller size. You have a very, very small creature who is completely disseperate from the normal rules and there are stacking issues.

But I guess this means I havent missed any words, because there havent been any :(

Those should of course be derived directly from their size.

Or the power only works on medium creatures... ;)

As written it actually sounds like you get 'size bonuses' from the power and you would still get the 'size modifier' based elsewhere in the rules in addition.

This is just crazy.

When all else fails... don't use psionics.

We've actually gotten so confused/argumentative/etc. over various psionic issues we just pretty much took it completely out of our playing. Until they come up with something more "stable"

It's psionics... the worst written rules-set in the game.

Actually, it is currently the best balanced and overall best written so far for 3.5 in my opinion. However, that does not mean that there are not issues here and there, just less than with the rest of the system.

Since the exact same problem happens with the versions in the phb I doubt that will help. I was only useing the psionic versions because that is what the character has. If I was useing the other versions I would have had the same questions.

If you are having issues with the psionics system this thread is not the place to discuss it. We could go back and forth about which is more stable and not (such as clerics/druids being overpowered in the core, but of course people brush that aside, isnt that nice).

This is not a 'psionics' question, this is a 'rules' question. It works the same way with any effect in the game like this.

Yet again there seems to be a wall hit where people cant find the rule, make up a call and then pretend that call is a rule, and then when pressed they start insulting everything around.

I want solid rules, not things that might be implicit if you look at it a certain way. If there are no solid rules that is fine, but insults about this system or that or things that might be implied arent helpful here ;/
