Conan: Coming of the Cimmerian

I just got this book from Amazon, and it could be some of the best 10 dollars I spent on a book yet. Its almost 500 pages, with 15+ Conan stories in the original text as by Howard. No "posthumous collaborations" here. I have never read Conan before, and had only seen the movies, but I am absolutly loving the book. I highly recomend it to any readers here. Almost makes me want to buy that Conan RPG book...

I've been reading this recently too. Although I've read the earlier Conan compilations, so the stories themselves aren't new. Presumably there's a second volume in the works, as this doesn't cover even some of the most famous stories ("Red Nails" is conspicuously absent.)

Also, how long before this gets moved to the books/movies/etc. forum? :D

Whoa! I just bought this.

Probably shoulda shared the love...

My Red Nails hardback is probably my most cherished book, but this one looks like it will be right up there. I haven't read most of these stories in over a decade.

I have to chime in as well and say that I am enjoying it a lot as well. Started it after I finished the Conan RPG this weekend, and I should be done with it by the end of the week or sooner(damn this work thing taking me away from my reading!). :D

20 minutes. Henry, you're loosing your touch. I gave it 10 minutes, tops. ;)

Yes, Conan: The Coming of The Cimmerian is a great collection. Seems like there is a revival of Sword & Sorcery happening these days. Between all the Conan products coming out (this volume, the RPG, and comics) and the other S&S books being republished, it's looking ike some fun times are ahead. Come June we are going to see The Savage Tales of Soloman Kane as well.

I just wish that we could see all of Fritz Leiber's books back in print. I have a few of the mass market paperbacks from the 70s and the 1st & 3rd volumes of the White Wolf 2-in-1 reissues of the Fafhrd and the Gray Mouser books from the 90s. I'd really like to see nice tradepaper reissues with several volumes in one like the Howard books.

I already own the two Fantasy Masterworks volumes that contain all of Robert E. Howard's Conan stories, completely unedited. I've read them so much that they are starting to wear out, so it looks like I might have to order a copy of The Coming of Conan the Cimmerian.

REH's Conan stories are my favorite fantasy stories of all time. I like them even more than Lord of the Rings.

Another newbie to Conan here. I've been enjoying this book as well. Took a break from it to read Anubis Gates for the EN World Book Club, and I am well pleased with that book.

While EN World is the best d20 source, ever, it has been an even better source of inspiration and information on literature for me. I have discovered and read so much thanks to EN Worlders, and my list of books to read could keep me happy for years.
