Conan RPG--Thoughts?

Our group has one copy, which we handled in hushed, reverent awe as if it were printed on Mount Sinai.

I'd like to implement the combat system, and some of the magic mechanics---but I'm waiting for Unearthed Arcana to make that decision.

Got my copy last night and only had a chance to flick through it.

Looks very good! My initial impression is that it has a similar feel to the Slaine RPG - which I suppose should come as no surprise given the genre and the fact that was published Mongoose.

The only other thing was how much better it is to have full character creation, etc. within a new setting book rather than cross referencing to the PHB. Does anyone really care that Conan RPG doesn't carry the d20 logo?

I read the two reviews. I got the definite impression that they were awarding high points for style and not really concerning themselves with the substance overmuch--and to receive a 5/5, a product should excel in both areas. One review was very light on details, and the other that went into somewhat more detail gave me reason to be wary. The changes to the weapon system, the rules for armor-piercing, the two defense systems, and the freely finessable weapons which pierces armor better than the other weapons all look a little kludgey and highly min-maxable.

Bottom line: considering all of the spanking new material that Conan offers, it's too early for the reviews to be gushing in. Nobody's had enough time with it to know how all of this pans out.
