So, what's up with the Shadizar map? Will there be a replacement like for the other Mongoose products with things like this?

Last I heard Mongoose was commisioning a new map. I bleieve they said they would be trading in the old map for the new one from custmers in the future.

Before I go an order another product that needs a giant book of errata...is this the plagarized map the only thing I should be worried about?

Am I getting this right? An artist gave Mongoose the same map that had already been released for a WotC product?

I don't have the box set, but from everything I have heard from people who have it the map is the only real screw up in it.

Hmmm. Any word on who the editor was or who was supposed to check it before it went out? I see they have a job opportunity for a new artist. "Little" mistakes like this leave big ??? later. Are there any reviews anywhere?

Actually, you don't have to be worried about this, but Mongoose has to. The map is usable as is. It just contains too much water for my imagination of a desert town, but that's personal preference.

Basically, yes. It's a map that's still available as free download from the WotC site, but with a few changes regarding the surrounding terrain colour to match the desert theme.

So, Shadizar of the desert is now Shadizar, city of waterways and Venetian atmosphere? Heh. Not the way I remember the stories, but I guess Mongoose holds the license. I'm poking fun: I take it Messantia will be on a floating lake of lava and Khemi in Stygia will be the "City of Towers." :)

Any word on who was responsible for the final "OK" or who the 'artist' was?

Actually canals are more common in ancient dessert cities, they doubled as aqueducts. Persia, Egypt, and Syria were famous for them.

No, and hopefully they will not release this information. It is an internal matter and really should not be made public.

Look at the original TSR map here (scroll down to 'Canal City of Mystery' ;)).

I don't know who the artist was, but obviously this info was spread on artist forums and between publishers. Regarding the editing concerns, I'm not really one to blame Mongoose for this. To discover plagiarism you have to demand that the editor knows each and every map that has ever been released or is available for download somewhere on the net, and I don't think that this is an adequate demand. The point with Shadizar as 'New Venice' is a bit more questionable, though ;).
