Conflicting HIPS?

unless an ability has an improved version later in the class standard rule is it is just a wasted overlap, like having 2 of the same named bonuses- only one applies. if it has an improved version generaly you get the improved one.

although I dont know what the scout is it sounds to me like they work in different ways (shadowdancers with shadows, scouts with scos maybe? ;) ).

Can you post the relevant text blocks?

If you have Hips from Scout and Shadowdancer ... what happens? What would happen if you throw Camoflauge in there as well?

I don't know about Camoflage off top my head- I'm not familiar with it, however, combining HIPS gets fun. Take, for instance, a Shadowdancer/Wildrunner (give me a few more levels...). He can then Hide in Plain Site anytime he's close enough to a shadow OR in natural surroundings. Or, in other words, can only lose the ability in urban surroundings where there are no available shadows.

There's no real point in having two calss abilities that give you HIPS under the same circumstances, but if the curcumstances are different, that's a different story...

They're not quite the same. You can use either one whenever appropriate. The similarity of names doesn't matter - if you think of them as "Shadowdancer HiPS" and "Scout HiPS" then it's obvious. Just like "Cleave" and "Great Cleave" - similar but not the same; use whichever one works.

The Scout is a base class in Complete Adventurer. A scout's Hide in Plain Sight ability lets him use the Hide skill even when someone is observing him. However this only works in natural terrain and when wearing light (or no) armor and carrying a light load. (It's the same as the Ranger's HiPS except for the encumbrance limitation.)

Shadowdancer is in the SRD so I can easily paste it here:
SRD said:
Hide in Plain Sight (Su): A shadowdancer can use the Hide skill even while being observed. As long as she is within 10 feet of some sort of shadow, a shadowdancer can hide herself from view in the open without anything to actually hide behind. She cannot, however, hide in her own shadow.
