Conglomeration is the Louisville, Kentucky, gaming and sci-fi convention that comes around every year. They've never been warm to the local game stores, game companies, and gamers, but lately they've been downright antisocial. Here's the homepage link: http://members.iglou.com/shadowr/conglomeration.htm On the plus side of things, Conglomeration has some good folks working for it, locals like Mags the Axe and Jake Lovell who are truly great people, but the inflexibility and aloofness of the other convention organizers boggles the mind. In Louisville, you have two game companies (Citizen Games and another I can't remember the name of) many game professionals (such as Mike Metzger and Dave Mattingly) and game artists (at least two that I can name!). Conglomeration invites none of these people, and doesn't seem to want to aknowledge Louisville's local talent in the slightest. Emails on the subject have gone completely unanswered by Conglomeration staff. Requests to become part of the con have been rebuffed, and attempts to schedule events at the con six months in advance have been ignored. Louisville doesn't have a ton of game stores, but the ones who survive there stay away from Conglomeration as well. Conglomeration brings in some nice guests, like David Drake this year and Boris Vallejo last year... but for Louisville residents, Conglomeration is like one big middle finger raised high towards the gaming community. All of these comments are the product of being fed up with the lack of local support. I was always the type who would support my local game store, comics store, and convention with equal fervor, and I knew they would return the favor. It just doesn't seem to work that way with Conglomeration. It's not too late for the con staff to include Louisville folks in their program for next year, and I for one hope they wake up and realize that it would be a wise decision.
