I hate to go all real world on ya' but there are a lot of variable that are missing from the above equation. SALUTE - Size Armament Location Units Time Equipment You have stated that you don't know the exact number of foes you are dealing with - first suggestion - intelligence - whether it is Invisibility and sneaking arounf to physically see what's there or Wizard Eye, Scrye, etc. to do it arcanely, you need firmer numbers. The first rule of engagement is never trust an eye witness, unless it's you. You need some better recon! What do they have available, it was already said they used non-standard orc tactics, are they being led by a more intelligent NPC or what if they have a magic user in the group, could make for a bad surprise if you go in blind. Location is pretty much covered Units - see Armament above, but what about those slaves? If you could infiltrate and turn them on their captors, it could make your job a lot easier - also, if you haunt the orcs, there is a good chance a lot of innocents will be killed to keep from having to bring them along, or to keep them working if the refuse due to the hauntings. (Just a thought) Time - Is time a factor? If you have a little time, use it, if it has to be done right now. How you do it may not matter so much as doing it in the fastest way possible - ie - kill everything and let the gods sort them out. Equipment - Why are the slaves using their hands to dig? Just to bust their morale or because they don't have the resources to spare to make tools? digging with bare hands is inefficiant, even slave drivers would prefer to use tools if available. If the orcs used superior tactics, this part doesn't square... This would concern me more than any of the other information. And Diaglo is right - "Charlie lives in the ground man, he can be anywhere..."
