They must've changed how they worked at some point, then. I got a promo one through InQuest magazine when they first premiered the game; it had a big (detachable) base (sort of like a MageKnight base on steroids), with 3 or 4 different dials. The base opened up to hold the different weapons you could arm the figure with.

You are correct. You stored the dice and rulers in the base as well. The figures are great, but the storage of them is a big headache.

I think the main problem (among several) with the game was the huge playing area required (5' x 5' is suggested). It made it hard to run a tournament in approved play, which was always one of WizKids strong points. In fact, their first games that failed to catch on were the ones without a strong approved play program. Creepy Freaks and Shadowrun had none, and Crimson Skies had only a couple of events (a shame since it is one of my favorite games of theirs).
