Confuse languages counters and dispels comprehend languages.</p><p>Material Components: A pinch of soot and a few grains of salt.</p><p>Source: AD&D Wizard’s Spell Compendium, Volume 1</p><p><em>Notes: Added saving throw, as befits a first level spell of this power.</em></p><p></p><p><strong>Destroy Water</strong></p><p>Transmutation</p><p>Level: Cleric 1, Druid 2</p><p>Components: V, S</p><p>Casting Time: 1 standard action</p><p>Range: Close (25 ft. + 5 ft./2 levels)</p><p>Effect: Up to 2 gallons of water/level</p><p>Duration: Instantaneous</p><p>Saving Throw: None</p><p>Spell Resistance: No</p><p></p><p>This spell allows you to instantly evaporate an amount of water as detailed above. Living creatures cannot be the target of this spell.</p><p>Source: AD&D Wizard’s Spell Compendium, Volume 1</p><p><em>Notes: Since create water can’t create water within a living creature, I figured destroy water shouldn’t destroy water within a creature, either.</em></p><p></p><p><strong>Detect Life</strong></p><p>Divination</p><p>Level: Cleric 1, Druid 1, Sor/Wiz 2</p><p>Components: V, S, M</p><p>Casting Time: 1 standard action</p><p>Range: 10 ft./level (maximum 60 ft.)</p><p>Area: Cone-shaped emanation</p><p>Duration: 5 minutes (D)</p><p>Saving Throw: None</p><p>Spell Resistance: No</p><p></p><p>By use of this spell, the caster can determine if a creature is alive, including a creature in a coma or trance, or under the influence of a feign death spell. Any form of mental protection blocks this spell, as does any thickness of metal. An inch of stone or wood is treated as 10 feet of open space for the purpose of determining whether this spell functions.</p><p>Material Components: A holy symbol and a hair from the head of a newborn animal.</p><p>Source: AD&D Wizard’s Spell Compendium, Volume 1</p><p><em>Notes: Deathwatch (Cleric 1, PHB) is similar, but is Necromancy [Evil] and gives a feeling for how many hit points the subject has.
