The eggs slowly grow until they become boulders taller than a human, each containing a full sized gladiator lizard ready to fight and kill the instant it hatches. It is likely gladiator lizard eggs develop by leeching vitality from their surroundings, which would explain why gladiator lizard always nest in lifeless areas. A gladiator lizard takes at least two years to reach full size but can enter a state of hibernation and remain dormant in its egg for decades. Full sized eggs are occasionally sold to wealthy folk who want a guardian monster or menagerie curiosity. Gladiator lizards are utterly untamable, so owners must have some way to control or restrain the creatures to safely access something they're guarding. Gladiator lizards have some connection to a small pale man that approaches people with strong life force and curse them to travel to a gladiator lizard's nest.
