I am buying this when it comes out in Nov. Game of Thrones is great, and also captures the atmosphere of the books very well. What I like about the combat system is that everyone makes an attack role, and a defense roll. There are various feats and skills which can enhance both. On defense, you can choose between dodge/parry and block (with a shield or other item). This makes the combat much more realistic and more fun. The problem with the setting is that George R.R. Martin has to sign off on everything before it can be released. And he can't take the time to check everything out and sign off on it until he finished the fourth novel in the series. So it might be GenCon '05 before the setting gets released. Also, there is no magic system because the magic in the books has so far been very minimal, and not explained very well. The writers of the game haven't been able to sit down with Martin to ask him about the magic system -- he's too busy writing -- so the magic system will probably have to be a supplement. But there is a lot of role-playing involved with the various houses, and alliances, and each character has reputation and status scores that reflect this.</blockquote>
