Good morning all (or evening)

I have a question for seasoned publishers/writers.

We use a home brew set of rules for alchemy, easy to use and adds some spice to the game as well as taking a little used skill and making it very worth while. I would like to write these rules up and try to have it published or put it up for e-publishing.

I do not want to write this up and try to publish it only to find I am infringing on someone’s copy-right.

How would I go about researching this?

If I find our system is original enough that it can be published, can you recommend a publisher to send it to for consideration.

Thanks in advance for any help/ideas/contacts.

Sincerely

Ken

A sneaky way to go about it would be to wander over to the Geneal forum and ask "can anyone reccomend a good d20 alchemy book?"

But a better approach would be to simply search RPGnow or something. You came up with this on your own, so all you're really doing is checking to see if anyone came up with the same ideas you did.

How big is your document? If its only 5 or so pages, I'd pitch it to Dragon Magazine first.

Good idea, though without purchasing the material I may not be able to determine if the ideas are the same, headed over to rgpnow to take a look. The rules are very simple takes ten minutes to learn, does not impact game pace very much at all.

I could present the material in just a few pages that would be comprehensive enough to be used. Like I said it is very simple but very versatile.

What I really want to do is present the rules along with some new alchemical items (like poison gas grenades) and how to research, as a basis for an alchemist to research new items. Toss in a few specialized spells that no alchemist should be without. Give the guide lines for advanced epic alchemy (you know turning lead into gold) Cover the basics of poison extraction and creation. I envision a 30+ page manual with artwork.

Thanks for the help and ideas

Well, if you wrote the rules there is very little chance of violating someone's copyright.

if you have something of a system together, I'd be interested in seeing it. writers@darkquest.com.
I should note that we have a product on Alchemy pretty far advanced in the process, as those writers and artists involved in the process can attest.
