Could the Death of Dragon actually drive you away from D&D?

  • Yeah, sadly enough, I was thinking of quitting anyway. This kind of finalizes it for me.

There seems to be alot of disgust and anger over Wotsbro's soulless execution of Dragon/Dungeon. Is it bad enough that it will push a lot of fence-sitters who have been contemplating quitting gaming over the edge?

For me, not in the least.

Dragon and recently Dungeon were about the only gaming material I bought over the past few years. I'm not the target market and I fully accept that. I've got enough material for the forseeable future, so, the cash that I would have spent on renewing a subscription I'll likely blow on something else.

It sucks not to have the magazines. They are something that I look forward to 2x per month (1 dragon, 1 dungeon). Even if I don't use material from the magazine, it always is a good read and something that stimulates the imagination.

Without the subscription, looks like I can go out movie and a dinner once.... Really, it was the best entertainment value for me, a few hours of entertainment each and every month. Now I can substitute 1 or maybe 2 books for the whole year for the same price.

It is a no brainer for me that WotC's decision sucks for me. I'll not be leaving the gaming hobby, but I am planning on supporting other game systems altogether. WotC does not deserve my dollars for this plan, although I am not overly bitter. If the new offerings (online) really knock my socks off with quality, presentation, usability, etc. then I may forgive them and refresh my support. However, I feel this decision was ill-conceived and probably just a profit mongering step for them, so they really have their work cut out for them to change my mind.

The death of Dragon could drive me from the General RPG Discussion board if these threads keep clogging it up... hopefully the need to post new threads will subside, just like it did for this winter's 4e announcement speculation.

From the Hobby? No.

But the mags are one of the things that made D&D as great as it was. D&D is definitely slipping from its spot as my prime RPG.
