Could we PLEASE have a "Video Games Open" discussion forum?

No offense, but "D&D Software and Utilities" or whatever it's called just doesn't fit the bill. I don't think to myself, "Sweet! Time to discuss the latest PS3 releases! I'll just click over to, uh, Software and Utilities, yeah, that's it!"

Pretty please with sugar on top? Hell, we can even call it "Video and Computer Games Open" or whatever and have WoW discussions allowed.

Well, for starters, that's not what the forum is called.

Software, Computers and D&D Utilities
General discussion on computer software and hardware, PC and console games, and RPG utilities such as eTools, PC GEN, etc.

I think that makes it perfectly clear what the forum is for. That definitely includes discussions on WoW. In fact, I can think of several discussions that have been about WoW in the forum already. Feel free to start a post if you want to talk about it.

[Huge, massive sigh]

If you would re-read my original post, I made it fairly clear that I would like to see a forum dedicated to CONSOLE VIDEO GAMES. I then added, "Heck, we can even toss in computer games like WoW if you like." When your response is to say, "If you want to talk about WoW, you already can," it suggests you didn't really read my post. But that's okay; I forgive you.

Um...I've been using that forum for years now to talk about both PC and console games, as have many, many others.

However, there are so few threads in that vein, as it is, that a seperate forum or calling it that, specifically, just wouldn't make sense.

You snark aside, I apologize - I wasn't having a great day, and took it out here. I also misinterpreted the post, as you said - I thought you meant video games in general. So, I'm sorry, and I'll try not to let it happen again.

The problem with a more specific forum, of any type, is that those forums always experience a large decline in posting, to the point that having a specific forum doesn't make much sense. This is doubly so when we're talking about the less frequented forums. Because of this, and because the primary purpose of ENWorld is for discussion, Morrus and the mods have been resistant to doing things that would decrease discussion. So, they keep all the games and computer and tech talk in the same forum to increase discussion on all three topics.

That said, as I said before and Ankh-Morpork Guard said as well, I think you should go ahead and post in there. If you create the threads, people will talk.

You've nailed it. Splitting subjects off into their own forums reduces discussion of the topic every time. That's why we're so resistant to it - this suggestion would result in a empty forum and killing off Console Gaming discussion completely.

The only time we split a forum off is when we have little choice - when we need to reduce large amounts of clutter releated to a specific subject so as to slow a forum down to the point where it's useable again. A minor forum will never suffer this problem; places like general, in the past, have become so busy and full that their useability has been decreased.

Cool! Many thanks. Now I'm off to start a thread about Silent Hill 5 . . . ;)
don't forget to make a thread about Manhunt 2 being pulled due to too much gore. ;)

I apologize as well, for the snark in my reply, particularly my "huge massive sigh" (I also apologize for the redundancy of that phrase. ;) )

Dearest moderators, now that we've reached an equitable compromise (adding "video games" to the current forum name) and have all kissed and made up, I am perfectly happy if you choose to close this thread.

Regards to all,

Chainsaw Mage
