Countdown to EN2

Michael Morris

First Post
April 18th at 5:00 PM EDT I will take the boards as you see them now down for the last time. Sometime Monday ENWorld will relaunch on a new codebase.

In the meanwhile this thread is an public progress report thread. As each new item is completed I encourage users to test them. It is highly important that bugs get shaken out now while the code is in dev. For those not in the know the dev server is at

http://dev.enworld.org

Tonight's progress is minor since I'm tired and only have about an hour to spend on the board. Specifically I upgraded dev to vbulletin 3.7 release candidate 2. Speaking of which - while I hope vb 3.7 will go gold before launch day - but if not it is stable enough in my opinion to launch with.

I'd recommend this as an announcement / sticky, cuz this is going to drop to page 2 quick :)

The countdown doesn't indicate 2+ days of downtime, so that might cause some confusion.

We won't be entirely down. After I take the snapshot I will lock all forums on the old boards so that people can browse threads and look stuff up over the weekend if necessary. New posts and threads will not be possible in this time period though.

Woohoo! Mods get a weekend off!

I find it an interesting coincidence that the weekend you've chosen is a holiday weekend here in Massachusetts - Patriot's Day is Monday the 22nd.

Perhaps it goes without saying - all the stuff anyone puts into the dev instance is not getting transferred to EN2 proper, correct? it is great to fiddle with, but don't put anything in there that you think is important...

That's silly; the Patriots are even playing that weekend.

That is correct - anything posted on dev may be lost at any time and without warning. Dev can also go down at any time and without warning - particularly in the evening when I'm working on the codebase.

Well, Labor Day isn't a day when laborer's work. And President's Day isn't a day when all the presidents work. So, why should Patriot's day be a day when the Patriots work?

The logic is unassailable, to be sure.
