Cowboy Bebop movie rocks!

I just got back from seeing the Cowboy Bebop movie. It was great! I highly recommend that you go see it if you have the chance. I know it's only showing in maybe 17 cities nationwide, but if you can, see it.

The story is very timely and more thought-provoking than most anime. Very philosophical, almost anti-existential. At least the opposite of existentialism, whatever that might be.

And Faye Valentine looks even hotter on the big screen.

At one point my friends and I were planning on taking a 12 or so hour road trip to one of thoes cities, but it was mostly forgotten, particuarly by a certian DM who scheduled his game on Saturday...

Sometimes the lulls in the action seem to run a little long but the action was very sweet. I'd still recommend it, especially if you love animation; the composition and depth of visual image is ecstatically beautiful at times (Spike and Elektra in corporate jail). What you see looks more at home on a museum wall rather than a 40 ft. screen in a darkened room.

A question for the better informed or more astute: Where was the movie set? Post-Gate Disaster Tokyo or on Mars? Or was Tokyo moved to Mars after the Gate Disaster?

here's the write-up from the official movie site:

"Mars is under siege! Just before Halloween 2071, a terrorist bomb destroys a tanker truck on Highway One, close to a densely-populated crater city. There are casualties up to half a mile from the blast – 500 killed or injured by what appears to be a biochemical weapon. The reward for the bomber’s capture is a massive 300,000,000 woolongs… and there are four humans and a dog who really need the money. Down on their luck as usual, the crew of the Bebop get on the case."

...so it's on Mars, but i'm not when
