Hi,

One of my player is becoming a good jeweller (10 ranks) and I need to figure out some appropriate DCs :

Polish an un-worked (according to is category (10gp,50gp,100gp, 500gp, 1000gp, 5000gp).
Make a non-masterwork jewel
Make a masterwork jewel
.. any others interesting ideas..

Also, if I compare the suggested gp/week (half check result) with the detailed process of doing some craft (with DC ranging from 15-20), including failure and loss of material, it doesn't seem to be equal.

What I told to my player is that the first one is an abstraction of a lot of expenses and troubles that is particular to a specific craft. He's not currently the owner of his proper shop, but working for an established jeweler. (I have tried to come up with some "ground rules" about becoming a “guilded” crafter).

The value of the jewel really just affects how long it will take and how many raw materials you need.

"You can make a masterwork item—a weapon, suit of armor, shield, or tool that conveys a bonus on its use..."

I'd say you can't make a masterwork jewel, no bonus to anything and it's not comprised of different components.

OTOH, an exquisite jewel is a fine masterwork component for a craft(clothier) project to produce masterwork garments (which, like any other masterwork tool, could give a +1 or +2 bonus to diplomacy or intimidate checks under the right circumstances).
