D&D 3E/3.5 Crafting costs minus provided materials (3.5)

Good answers. To put it more in perspective, I'm shopping to have items crafted for me, not do so myself.

Here are a couple bonus follow up questions:

If a specific item you possessed used a base item that was the same as a different specific item, could you merge the two? It can be done with standard enhancements, but what about specific?

Are you asking if you have a bracers which have displacement on them, as per cloak of displacement in a different slot, can you turn them ALSO into bracers of archery?

More sanely, if you did possess the raw special materials for crafting an item, would the amount used be equal to the item crafted? A little more to reflect waste? The whole lot, maybe a chunk by size category?
Are you asking if u have 10 units of X to make Y and attempt to make Y how many units would be used?

It depends on the craft check.

Let's assume it takes 2 units to make X into Y.

A failed roll (generally) means the 2 units are wasted.

A successful roll (generally) means the 2 units make the object.

IF you fail several times before succeeding then.... that many units are wasted.

They (usually) include any parts that are peeled off in the cost. In the real world for example if you were whittling a small statue from wood, then you only need the one piece to carve it. If you screw up then you'll need another piece. You (generally) don't need two pieces to make something that can be carved out of one. The cost listed as per making the item is what it requires to make it and includes anything you have to "whittle" away to get there.

Yes, that's pretty much exactly what I am asking. As you can stack standard enhancements on an item, can you do so with specific ones?

Yes.
RAW states/examples how to create and expand the magical capabilities of a magical blade, so logically the same approach should apply to other items as well thus while the chances of stumbling over Displacing Bracers of Archery as slim-to-none, theres little reason why YOUR mage couldn't design and craft them himself.
