Creating a Greek Mythology campaign

Tyonisius

First Post
I am working on doing a campaign based in the Mythological Greece. I'm using the book "The New Argonauts" by Sean K Reynolds as a kind of basis. The only playable race in this world is going to be humans, but I wanted to flavor it up a bit by having the different Ethnicities in Greece (and possibily the surrounding world) work like the different Races do in standard DnD. Small pluses or minuses to stats based upon the Ethnicity of the character, bonuses to some skills, etc. If you have any feed back/ideas or know of some other cheap/free pdfs that might help me, please let me know!

You could try OGL Ancients by Mongoose. It has foreign backgrounds which offer small bonuses depending on your origin. The list of backgrounds is: Amazon, Assyrian, Barbarian, Nubian, Persian, Hittite, Phoenician, Scythian, Spartan, Athenian, Thessalian, Cretan, Theban and Karnak. (BTW, while I have this book, I've never actually used it in game, so I can't vouch for how well it plays in game)

RPG Objects has Legends of the Ancients: Macedon & Carthage , but they may be too late historically to fit what you need. And Green Ronin has Trojan War and Testament.

All of these should be available as .pdf downloads

Hope that helps

Pocket Conan RPG by Mongoose was given away for free last week. All "races" are Human from different regions but have ability score modifiers, feats, etc. like D&D races.

You could make your own but OGL Ancients sounds pretty appropriate.

The OGL Ancients sounds like it will be perfect but I'll have to wait until after Christmas to be able to afford to drop the $25 on it =( I might work on my own between now and then. Thanks for everyone's help thus far.

This would require some network on your part, but try this:

D20 Modern has an SRD that explains the use of Occupations. Occupations are a set of "extra" skills that become class skills once the occupation is chosen, plus an occasional bonus feat. For example:

D20 Modern SRD said:
Academic
Academics include librarians, archaeologists, scholars, professors, teachers, and other education professionals.
Prerequisite: Age 23+.
Skills: Choose three of the following skills as permanent class skills. If a skill the character selects is already a class skill, he or she receives a +1 competence bonus on checks using that skill.
Computer Use, Craft (writing), Decipher Script, Gather Information, Knowledge (arcane lore, art, behavioral sciences, business, civics, current events, earth and life sciences, history, physical sciences, popular culture, tactics, technology, or theology and philosophy), Research, or add a new Read/Write Language or a new Speak Language.
Using this formula, you could then assign relative skills/bonuses to each "race" of your campaign. If you want to be more flavorful, you might consider searching out the FAQ for the various Civilization games (PC). Many of your choice races are listed as playable, and each race starts play with certain available skills. Extrapolate, and use this as your guide to assigning skills for your own races.
