The answer isn't made simple, Re:A simple answer to a simple question Look, don't beat yourself up over it.Don't make them strangle you over this! Item creation costs include the research time and materials needed, including how to store items temporarily held in extradimentional spaces to a permanent level. Not good enough for the anal retentive types? Sheesh, it's fantasy! It tates time and materials to do costly spellcasting item creation! You can come up with whatever reasoning you want; you're the GM! I hope that was good enough to allow it! Still not good enough? Fine! For you non recovered (I'm a recovered anal-retentive) saps, please follow along: Page 248 of the DMG states the bag of holding needs the casting of Leomund's secret chest. Page 247 of the PH under the spell description (third paragraph) states that, "The cost of such a chest is never less than 5000 gp." Now, if they still need to continue and get to this point to "allow" you this, they probally have little will to imagine how this works, or why. The explanation is, the type IV of the bag uses the same initial creation methods of the chest so mentioned in the spell, but its storage actually is in its own permanent etheral pocket dimensional space. While not allowed in the basic spell, item creation allows other bags to use smaller and smaller types of chests in the creation and storage decisions (with the same costly materials) porportionally, thus the reduced costs, weights, and total space allowed by the spellcasting. The "bag": -Substitutes for the permanent "replica" and "chest" (which should be considered fused permanently with the bag or in a pocket etheral space permanently, not able to be found without very special additional magic). -Weighs the exterior weight of the chest (as if you weighed it with no items inside). -Is a permanent direct opening to the specific dimensional pocket in the etheral plane. No offense, but if you're a DM and wouldn't allow an item until somebody explained why with documented proof, you are supposed to do the reasoning and imagination. I'm sorry if you find offense at this. There you go! Josh
