Creature Catalog - Paperback?

I saw on Amazon the Darksun Creature Catalog is a soft cover book?

Did we know this already?

I'm ok with this, as it brings it to a nice price point.

Then again, I'm not the type that feels every book has to be a hardback book (or even full color.)

I find this immensely disappointing. I actually like hardcovers a lot because the books tend to survive for eternity

It's listed as paperback on the Wizards site, as well. How disappointing. It will look silly sitting on the shelf with all the hardcovers...

...which I guess is a stupid reason to be mad that it costs $15 less than it would have otherwise. I dunno how to feel about this, I guess!

Well based on the fact that the essentials line is soft cover,and things like the Dragonborn/Tiefling books and Hammerfast are soft cover...

My guess is they plan to do more of this type of book... so it won't look lonely for too long.

My game shelf is a mix of hard bound and softbound stuff anyway though.

I think a better question will be whether or not the Essentials' trade paperback size will become the norm. We know that Heroes of Shadow will be trade paperback, as will the Nentir Vale Gazetteer.

Yes, sadly. (I prefer hardcovers.)

I did, it was announced last November as a softcover in WotC's product catalog. It's been discussed in this thread around post #125.

I would prefer hard-cover hyself, but can live with softcover, as long as most of my books are hardcovers, softcovers do well on my shelf.
