Hi all, I'm just looking for helpful criticisms and suggestions for a character I just recently planned out and started playing. The group I'm playing with does not have any other players focusing on combat optimization, and the DM is running some basic modules for low-level characters, so I'm taking the opportunity to build up an otherwise sub-par character idea: a fighter who specializes in the use of a spiked shield as a weapon. The goals (although I'm rather flexible): Advance my 1st-level barbarian into whatever needed classes as he levels. Only shield spikes and/or armor spikes for weapons. Capable of taking lots of punishment. Capable of focusing most/all of the punishment on himself. Work well in combat with a guisarme-using elf fighter. Be highly effective from 2nd level into 8th or so level (when the campaign/s will likely end) Here's the plan, as I've mapped it out so far: [sblock]
Human Barbarian 1/ Fighter 4/ Psychic Warrior 2 Str 16, Dex 12, Con 14, Int 12, Wis 14, Cha 9 Barbarian 1 Rage 1/day, +10' speed, WF:Spiked Shield, Imp. Shield Bash Fighter 1 Shield Specialization Fighter 2 WF:Spiked Armor, Agile Shield Fighter PsiWarrior 1 Power Attack, 1PP, 1 power[1] PsiWarrior 2 Leap Attack, 3PP, 2 powers[1] Fighter 3 Shield Ward Fighter 4 Blood Spiked Charger (THEN) War Mind 1 Chain of personal superiority +2, 6PP, 3 powers[1] War Mind 2 Extra Rage, Chain of defensive posture +2, 10PP, 4 powers[1] War Mind 3 DR 1/-, 15PP, 4 powers[1] War Mind 4 21PP, 5 powers[2] (OR) Fighter 5 Fighter 6 WS:Spiked Shield, MWM:Piercing PsiWarrior 3 6PP, 3 powers[1] PsiWarrior 4 9PP, 4 powers[2] Powers: 4 Burst (+10' speed, swift, 1rd) 5 Skate (+0-30' speed, standard, 1min/lvl) 8 Empty Mind (+2 Will +1/2PP, immediate, 1rd) 9 Expansion (Size +1, standard, 1rd/lvl, 1min/lvl +2PP) 11 Psionic Lion's Pounce (swift, 3PP, +1 dmg/PP) Starting: (100gp) Studded Leather 25gp,30lb Spiked Heavy Wooden Shield 17gp,15lb Dagger 2gp,1lb Backpack 6gp,27lb Bedroll, blanket, waterskin, torch, 2 days rations, fishing net, 50' hemp rope, Talariic Codex Climb 4, Jump 4, Listen 4, Survival 4, Knowledge(Psionics) 2, Read/Write 2
[/sblock] The point of the skill ranks is to flesh out a bit of the back story. Basically, he's got this old book he picked off a dead traveler, and it has a great picture of a guy slaughtering hordes in gold on the front, so it must be a good read. A little time spent learning to read, and voila! you've got someone on the way to becoming a full-fledged Warmind. So, basically I intend to make this barbarian into a shield/armor smashing defensive powerhouse. Any ideas to do so faster or better than listed above would be appreciated.
