Cryptosnark CDs (UPDATE)

CSB046

First Post
Hi all.

To anyone who ordered a CD of Cryptosnark Games PDF products back in December and has not received it yet, I've been asked to post the following update (much of which was posted over the last few days on the Deeds, Not Words Yahoo group):

Scott Lynch sincerely apologizes to those who have not received their CD yet [which includes myself, if that matters]. He has been largely offline for the past month due to a move, and he was not aware that some people still did not have their CDs. (His girlfriend Jenny contacted him after receiving a message from one of the posters here on EN World.) FedEx initially lost some of the CDs, and it sounds as though a few of the replacement CDs that were sent out via U.S. mail also did not make it to their destinations. However, despite these shipping problems, Scott is accepting full responsibility for making sure his customers are taken care of, and he is sorry that circumstances left him out of touch for so long. He and Jenny intend to burn new CDs as quickly as possible (neither has their own CD burner) and send them out, likely via certified mail.

If you have not yet received the CD you ordered, please send an e-mail (including your actual shipping address for confirmation purposes) to cryptosnark@yahoo.com. Also, be CERTAIN to copy Jenny's address on your e-mail...jennifer.c.hermey@uwrf.edu. Until Scott has reestablished a stable Internet connection, Jenny will help to make sure all messages regarding the problem are passed along.

On the business front, Scott is taking the Cryptosnark website offline for a couple of weeks to retool and acquire some new software to help improve the company and its products. For now, PDF sales will continue through RPG Now.

That's the update. Since I am in no way an official voice of Cryptosnark Games, hopefully Jenny [who asked me to post this information] or Scott will be able to add any details I've accidentally left out. Thanks.

That's what I get for not searching for the name "Scott Lynch" on these boards for a few months. Writing the email now...

The email's sent, but I just checked yahoo - seems some people have still not heard anything as late as 4/11/2004. That doesn't look good...

Copying part of a message I just posted on the General RPG Discussion board:

I'm the one who posted the update linked in Zoatebix's message, and at this point, I feel like a complete idiot for being a trusting person and doing so.

At the time I posted that message, both Scott and his girlfriend had said they would get the CD situation sorted out (via the Deeds Not Words Yahoo group and a couple of individual e-mails to me from Scott's girlfriend), and I gave them the benefit of the doubt and agreed to post the update at her request; she was having trouble accessing/using these boards.

The last post from Scott on the Yahoo group came on March 10, when he wrote the following:

Hey, all--

I am returning, more or less, to the 'net as I was before-- I will generally be
available at some point each day from now on. My apologies once again for
vanishing like a Pac-Man ghost.

I've made a date to burn the new CDs on Thursday. Jen has all the addresses
and has been helping me a great deal; those still owed a CD will be informed
of their tracking numbers (by either myself or Jen) after I get them out. I'll be
using UPS this time. No further *physical* C-Snark products will be offered
until I get my act together and have all the necessary equipment on my own
desktop; full refunds will be given to anyone who wants one, throughout
March and April, in addition to the CDs.

Considering he has made no further contact via En World, the Yahoo group, or e-mail, and that several people (myself included) have yet to receive either a refund or a CD, I have no idea what to think at this point. The "date to burn the new CDs" Scott mentioned passed over a month ago.

These CDs were supposed to have been received by all the paying customers by December 25. Considering that we're almost 4 months and a number of empty promises (such as the one I've quoted) past that, I'd say Scott's position is pretty indefensible at this point...

(Note: In case it ever comes up, I did in fact e-mail Scott at the time I posted the earlier update and decline the need for a refund of my $20. I bought the product and was still willing to pay for it. Of course, this was on the assumption I would actually RECEIVE the CD I purchased.)

It's been another 5 months or so - has anyone received their CD or heard from Scott?
-George
