Cult of the Dragon - Forgotten Realms - Need Updated Info

I'm in the proccess of preparing for a PbP D&D 3.5 game based in FR.

I would like to use the Cult of the Dragon as my primary reoccuring bad guys.

I've been trying to do some research on the group to figure out what they have been up to recently.

I have read the sections on them in Champion's of Ruin (CoR), Lord's of Darkness (LoD) and the Campign book. I also have looked for stuff on the web with very little luck.

In LoD they mention the building of a new headquarters, but their is no time stamp on the entry. Anyone know when this was and when the fortress might be completed?

I also found some refrences to them starting the Rage of Dragon's in 1373 DR. The timeline I have seems to indicate this is detailed in a serries of Novels. The Rage, The Rite & the Ruin. Has anyone read these, would they be helpful in planning a campaign?

Any information suggestions or ideas would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks

BOZ, thanks for the link.

This was actually one of the things I found when I Googled Cult of the Dragon.

The problem is that is has only the one page, with 5 paragraphs, which don't contain any information beyond the refrences I already have. :\ Unless I missed something, which is possible since I don't do the Wiki thing that much.

Thanks again for taking the time to post it . :D

If you can wait a week or two, I promise that everything you could ever want about the Cult of the Dragon will be in Dragons of Faerun. We've got an entire chapter devoted to it, including an adventure.

Read the year of Rogue Dragons trilogy.

I'm told by my DM that that the series inspired (part of) his latest campain and features the cult and Sammaster in the year of rogue dragons

I have not read the trilogy because of the above

Eytan - Thanks for the heads up. I was wondering if there would be stuff in there. I'll make sure to check it out when it hits my LFGS.

Zamtap - Thanks for the info on the books. I'll check out what the exact titles are on WotC, so I know what i'm looking for at the Used Book Store tomorrow.

Year of Rogue Dragons
The Rage
The Rite
The Ruin

Read the spoiler text below only if you don't intend to read the books above, as it tells you how the book ends:
The rogue dragons - a number of good dragons who decide not to wait out this Rage in magic-induced slumber, as the prophecy says that this one will never end - and their allies manage to first create magic that can stave off the Rage for a while, and finally find out how Sammaster managed to change the ancient curse: He found a secluded elf fortress where the high magic focus for the original Rage he twisted that magic (and bound it with his phylactery) to let the rage come prematurely and never end. The rogue dragons mount an assault on that hidden fortress - which is defended heavily by planar dragons - and they and their allies manage to destroy Sammaster's Phylactery - end result: The Rage is over, Sammaster is gone for good, and the cult of the dragon almost falls apart as the dragons due to become dracoliches find out that the rage has subsided and fall on the cultists

And below is what I plan to do to the cult in my campaign
Tiamat, ever eager for more power, seizes control of the Cult. She changes their goals a bit and gives to them and the dragons her spawn as warriors and servants in the Kingdom to come (not that she'll want to turn all her chromatic children into undead, but the cultists need not know that)

Kae'Yoss - thanks for the information. I'm going to wait on the book spoilers untill I see if I'm able to pick them up tomorrow.

I did read your plan for your game. Very cool, hope it goes well.

Go to the downloads section on the WotC "Forgotten Realms" page and you can download the still-useful 2E Cult of the Dragon sourcebook.

The Swordsage

Yes, what Swordsage said, go to the D&D Website and download "Cult of the Dragon" in the "Classic Downloads" section of their site. It's a 2E book, but really heavy on information which is what you'll need.
