Cybernetic's Dragonstar SAGA Thinktank

Hello all. I am currently in the process of putting together a new campaign for one of my current gaming groups. We really haven't touch upon a sci-fi like game yet, so this that is the direction I was going to lean towards. I recently skimmed through the Star Wars Saga Edition and absolutely fell in love with the variant d20 system portrayed within....however....I'm not a very big fan of the Star Wars setting (I don't dislike it..its just not my cup of tea...I know..heretic :P )... So I am going to retrofit Dragonstar to the rules of SW SAGA Edition.

The purpose of this thread is to act as a thinktank for this conversion process. Any who are interested are more than welcome to contibute. I'll start posting my material in the near future..I wanted to get things set up here first.

You could probably port over the Soldier talent trees almost verbatim for Fighters.

Aye. It would port over rather seemlessly for the Fighter.

What is your opinion on making the Barbarian/Ranger/Paladin classes as talent trees of the Fighter class (or Warrior Class)?

I don't know the first thing about Dragonstar, so if this makes no sense on that account, tune me out. I have given considerbale thought to converting Eberron to Saga rules though.

I would definitely have a "Rage" talent tree for fighters. Rangers would be more of a non-magical adaptation of the Scout.

As far as Paladin go, would you consider porting all magic into Force-style powers. That way, a Paladin could be a "Fighter" (soldier) who has taken the "Faithful" or "Favored by Gods" feats (aka, Force Sensitivity) and gains some basic uses of the "Prayer" skill that can be expanded on through Divine Magic trees, much in the way a Soldier can take Use The Force, without actually having to be a Jedi.

For arcanists, you may want to do a similar thing.

No worries. Dragonstar uses the standard DnD core books just like Eberron. So your comments are still helpful, as that is part of the conversion as well.

I do plan on convert magic over to be more like the Force in the Saga rules. I plan on making a skill for Divine Magic and another for Arcane Magic (and Associated Feats).

I've had some thoughts on spellcasting classes..

I'm thinking about making two classes to represent them:

The Mage
- Arcane Spellcasters
- Utilize spell Books for their magic
- Sorcerer is a prestige class for Mage's who awaken/find the dragon blood within their veins, which allows them to forgoe their spellbooks and narrows their versatility.

The Adept
- Divine Spellcasters
- Utilize belief for their magic.
- Druid abilities could be either Talent Trees or a Prestige Class.

You should try and get a hold of Grim Tales which already turned most of the class abilities of the D&D classes into talent trees. Although it uses the d20 Modern base classes the talent trees could easily be ported into SWSE.

The classes I think I will end up with in my conversion are:

Druid
Mage
Noble
Priest
Rogue
Scout
Soldier

The core classes would convert this way:

Barbarian (Soldier/Scout with Soldier Rage talent tree)
Bard (Mage and Noble/Rogue or Noble/Rogue with Arcane Power feat-probably have a PRC with a Bardic Music talent tree)
Cleric (Priest or Priest/Soldier)
Druid (Druid or Druid/Scout)
Fighter (Soldier)
Monk (Soldier/Scout or Soldier/Rogue- maybe a PRC with a Ki-mastery Talent Tree)
Paladin (Soldier with the God-favored feat or Soldier/Priest- probably a PRC)
Ranger (Scout or Scout/Druid or Scout with the Nature-Touched feat- Probably a PRC)
Rogue (Rogue, Scout, or Rogue/Scout)
Sorcerer (Mage)
Wizard (Mage)

Feats:
Arcane Power: as Force Sensitive, but grants the Spellcraft skill (used as Use the Force)
God-Favored: as Force Sensitive, but grants the Prayer skill (used as Use the Force)
Nature-Touched: as Force Sensitive, but grants the Draw on Nature skill (used as Use the Force)

The biggest conversion problem here will probably be converting spells into a combination of Powers, Talents, Techniques, and Secrets)

Some guidelines...
Secrets -> metamagic feats, or anything you want to reserve to high-level characters
Techniques -> other magic feats, or anything you want to reserve to mid-level characters
Talents -> long duration effects, abilities that let you use magic instead of other skills
Powers -> instant/encounter duration effects
