Perhaps you have heard of Deneval Circus of Delights? No matter, that was more than 50 years ago, but in its day it was known far and wide.

I was left as a wee babe on the circus tent flap. I suppose my mother felt that I could find a living in the circus, perhaps in the side show. Perhaps she felt I would fit in better there. Aegric took me in and took care of me, despite my heritage, or perhaps because of it.

You see I am a Half Orc and more. The blood of dragons runs through my veins. Not recently, but somewhere in my ancestry lies a true dragon. I didn’t know this at first, I knew that I had small deformities, small patch of light scales, larger teeth, harder nails. Nothing too outrageous, but of course augmented with the proper costume and makeup, I became The Dragon Boy. That may sound terrible to you, but in the atmosphere of a circus it is not nearly so bad.

I had an unusual childhood, but one filled with love and a strong sense of community. That came to an end when the circus was travelling and one of the local lords took a fancy to the three nymphs that traveled with us. He offered to buy them from my father, but Aegric was not the type of man to betray his people, nor the type of man to peddle in flesh. So as we traveled quickly away from his lands we were set upon by “bandits”.

The circus was destroyed, they killed everyone but the nymphs, who were carted away. I was left for dead, buried underneath a burning wagon. I of course didn’t die, I fled into the wilderness, sure that if I showed my face, a terrible “accident” would befall me.

I learned to live off the wilds with a few tricks I had learned from the circus. I honed my skills for months until I finally felt I was ready. I returned to the lords land, intent on my revenge.

Let us say that I was not ready enough, but I was lucky. A group of adventurers, out to stop the very same lord, freed me from the jail cell where I was waiting execution and together we freed the nymphs and slew the lord.

Having no ties left, I joined the adventuring party. We traveled wide and far, righting wrongs and being paid well for it. I was content, until we went after the White Witch. We had been hired by a group of local businessmen to remove an evil sorceress, who lived in the mountains and had been harassing their trade caravans. We quickly tracked her back to her lair.

It seemed the White Witch was actually a silver dragon, she was attempting to stop the slave trade coming through her territory. We were understandable upset at having been lied to, so we agreed to help the Witch put the slavers out of business for good. Afterwards she came to me and explained some of my nature, she told me that the draconic part of me was repressed, but with the proper technique, taking the proper herbs, I could bring it to the surface.

Since the days at the circus I had always been fascinated by my draconic heritage, I jumped at the chance to explore it. I continued on with my friends, as our experience broadened and our fame grew, so did my Dragon. I began to change physically, growing larger, stronger, harder. I could breath fire, sense things without seeing them. Finally I grew great wings that could carry me aloft into the sky.

We then slew the Great Dragon of the Everglades, the ultimate achievement for a group of adventurers. Our names were known far and wide, we had more wealth than we knew what to do with. We finally decided to retire. Our fame brought pupils to learn from us, we built a home in the swamp and aside from a few minor problems through out the years, we have lived peacefully. To top it all off, we were able to secure a supply of rejuvenating liquid, delivered to us yearly, to fend off the roll of years.

Then a few months ago, I began having dreams, dreams of the dragon. I can feel a change building within my body, I had thought I had finished the transformation, I had stopped taking the herbs, but apparently I had traveled far enough down the path to let the transformation happen despite the lack of the herbs, it just took longer.

Appearance:

Standing nearly 7 feet tall, Thergan is massive in every sense of the word. He has an off green pallor which is offset by the occasional patch of deep reddish scales on his body. His teeth are larger than normal, even for a half orc and his fingers end in thick, black claws. His great wings are black, running towards red near the tips. His over all appearance is quite frightening and he has often been mistaken for a demon. On the other hand he has a rich and deep baritone voice.

Since he has undergone the dragon apotheosis, his body has been completely covered in red scales, he has developed a set of black sweeping horns staring at his temples and sweeping back along the sides of his head and protruding a few inches beyond his skull.

Usually he wears his hat of disguise and appears as a tall, powerfully built human with long blond hair (tied back with a simple leather thong – the hat) with grey eyes.
