Thanks again for the kudos. I think I’ll stick with the Tuesday/Friday update schedule for now. Chapter 29 Folgar was the first to react, but in his haste he misfired his ray of frost, the beam splashing across the threshold of the door, creating a rime of ice on the stone blocks but failing to harm the ogre. The dwarf retreated into the corridor that led deeper into the temple complex, slipping his spellbook back into his bag as he went. A moment later Ravani shot the giant in the leg, but even though the arrow penetrated deep it looked tiny against his sheer mass, a pinprick at best. But the attack definitely caught his attention, and he roared as he plucked the bloody splinter out and tossed it aside. Greghan hefted his sword and started forward to confront the ogre, but paused as Leana tugged hard on the hem of his mail coat. “Let him come to us,” she whispered, nodding toward the caltrops strung across the entry. She raised her sigil and summoned a blast of sacred flame that splashed across the ogre’s torso, further enraging him. The ogre responded to the initial attacks by ducking forward through the archway. But as his massive foot came down it trod upon one of the improvised caltrops. The ogre roared in pain and jerked back, almost cracking his head on the arched entry. He reached down and plucked the bloody piece of now-bent metal out of his foot, grimacing at it before tossing it across the room. “Hurt you!” he bawled. It was a nasty promise, one he could fulfill if he could get that huge club into play, but the delay had given the adventurers another chance to strike. Folgar blasted him again, and this time the icy beam struck true, forming a blue line of ice crystals across his abdomen.
