Reward: 2000 XP & 1000gp each.</p><p><s>#002 Find and investigate the ancient dragon burial site Dicky was looking for, he might be there. Reward: 250 XP.</s> COMPLETE</p><p><s>#003 Destroy the kobold menace, including their leader- ‘Chopper.’ Reward: 250 XP & 75gp, with 1gp paid for every kobold tail handed in.</s> COMPLETE</p><p>#004 Stop Orcus-worshipping Karl’s ritual to bring an undead army to Kirkgate. Basically, save the village, begs (eventually) Lord Crumble. 1000 XP & 250gp reward.</p><p>#005 Find/Save Cheggers. That's it really, the PCs just need to find/save Cheggers, for Fionulla. Reward 100 XP.</p><p>#006 Find and kill/capture the Bloody Heck- including any leaders. Recover any prisoners they have kidnapped. Find out where Karl is based. Reward: 400 XP & 100gp, with 1gp paid for every member of the Bloody Heck confirmed dead or captured.</p><p></p><p>Next…</p><p></p><p>[ATTACH=full]405056[/ATTACH]</p><p><strong>Snakebite (‘20’, yes- another) sneaks along a grim ancient passage- the smell of smoke and the low buzz of chatter coming from ahead.</strong></p><p></p><p>She gets to only maybe fifteen or so feet away from a very lax goblin guard who stands unseeing outside a double doored much larger chamber. The doors are open- there are goblins within.</p><p></p><p>The monk watches for a few minutes more, she’s certain that there are at least half-a-dozen goblins in the chamber ahead. There’s also another door to the northwest of the inattentive goblin door guard.</p><p></p><p>The monk quickly and quietly creeps back up the stairs to her friends.</p><p></p><p>A plan- eventually- after a good twenty or so minutes of chittering (and bickering- minor)- is formed.</p><p></p><p>The plan requires Spiggot, and the unconscious body of Sgt Groan- Mavis gets to work, first off to wake the unconscious Spiggot, and then- with help from C-Fax (and after an apology from McGow for punching Spiggot out) the goblin revolutionary is convinced to play his part.</p><p></p><p>Spiggot’s reward- freedom, simple as, when the PCs get done here with Big Fat Ron they will release Spiggot into the wilds (as it were). He can go his own way; he can have all the freedom that he wants (and a little coin to spend).</p><p></p><p>Note, Mavis rolled another (straight) persuasion check here, and ‘16’ plus bonuses = ‘20’.</p><p></p><p>And so, around about five minutes later, after Travis and Snakebite have snuck back down the corridor and hidden themselves in handily placed niches, Spiggot does his stuff.</p><p></p><p>[ATTACH=full]405057[/ATTACH]</p><p><strong>The goblin descends the stairs dragging (by a rope) an unconscious Sgt Groan. The hobgoblin’s head thunking on every stair on the way down. This thought, for some reason, makes Spiggot grin; he wipes the smile from his face as- eventually- the goblin guard (a wretch called Pildik) looks up.</strong></p><p></p><p>“Der fightin’ upstairs- Gertchya* says she’s in charged now!” Spiggot offers and points back up the stairs.</p><p></p><p>*Gertchya was one of Sgt Groan’s little helpers in the torture chamber above, she’s deceased at present.</p><p></p><p>Spiggot rolls an ‘18’, the DM ever generous gave him advantage on the roll.</p><p></p><p>[ATTACH=full]405058[/ATTACH]</p><p><strong>The goblin on the door starts shouting, and then comes running- there’s a kerfuffle, more goblins come rushing out the large chamber ahead. No-one, it seems, wants to miss out on seeing the unconscious Sgt Groan.</strong></p><p></p><p>Note, the armoured trio- C-Fax, McGow and Mavis, are still on the stairs- they’ve got little chance, even here, of sneaking any closer to the action.</p><p></p><p>Then- Travis steps out of the shadows.</p><p></p><p>Never a good sign.</p><p></p><p>[spoiler= The Bad Guys]<strong>Enc#9 Big Fat Ron & Friends 730 XP CR 5 Deadly.</strong></p><p><strong>8 x Goblin Cutter (35xp each)</strong> As per MM Goblin except leather armour (AC 13) and armed with three daggers each, one for stabbing and two for throwing.</p><p><strong>5 x Goblin Warrior (50xp each)</strong> As per MM Goblin except better HP spread = 2d4+4.</p><p><strong>1 x Big Fat Ron, Goblin Boss (200xp) </strong>As per MM Goblin Boss except Con 14, Int 12, Wis 10, Cha 12, armed with a light crossbow (instead of javelin/shortbow) MAX HP = 6d6+12 = 48.</p><p><strong>Tactics-</strong> Goblins- attack the intruders- obey Big Fat Ron, defend the lair; Big Fat Ron- kill, kill, kill- with crossbow, try not to get into melee- spend the lives of the other goblins like water, get out alive at all costs.[/spoiler]</p><p></p><p>[ATTACH=full]405059[/ATTACH]</p><p><strong>Two goblins are dead already, both wearing crossbow bolts like badges, only badges piercing the center of their chests and protruding from their backs. Snakebite and McGow in the meantime block the doorway into the larger chamber, the makeshift lair of the remainder of the Bloody Heck goblins.</strong></p><p></p><p>The door to the north spews out a pair of goblin warriors, and then C-Fax catches a glimpse of a small but portly goblin- clad in a chain shirt and armed with a crossbow.</p><p></p><p>Big Fat Ron gives his orders and then opens fire on the dragonborn.</p><p></p><p>The DM however, during this fight, is mostly rolling five or below- including three ‘1’s in a row at one point here.</p><p></p><p>Note, C-Fax has used his Blessing of Battle, and so he’s super-boosted (+1d4 on to hit, damage & saves). Mavis casts Bless in the first turn, therefore Travis, McGow and Snakebite are all suitably boosted too.</p><p></p><p>[ATTACH=full]405061[/ATTACH]</p><p><strong>The paladin pushes his way into a dark corridor home atm to Big Fat Ron and another goblin warrior, the dragonborn spews his icy silver dragon breath, freezing to death the warrior.</strong></p><p></p><p>Big Fat Ron is isolated.</p><p></p><p>Snakebite, meantime, is taking hits.</p><p></p><p>[ATTACH=full]405062[/ATTACH]</p><p><strong>Moments later the half-orc falls, or else she would do if it wasn’t for her healing HD (house rule), the half-orc survives for about five seconds longer.</strong></p><p></p><p>At which point Snakebite is cut down again, but… she has Relentless Endurance, and so- once again- she manages to keep on her feet, but on just one hit point.</p><p></p><p>[ATTACH=full]405063[/ATTACH]</p><p><strong>The fight rumbles on- McGow and Snakebite (with help from Travis sniping) take down the various Bloody Heck goblins.</strong></p><p></p><p>Big Fat Ron, meantime, dodges past C-Fax and then charges into Travis trying to barge his way out of the dead end he’s stuck in.</p><p></p><p>A titanic battle of strength, the adjusted dice rolls – three versus seven, I imagine a slap-fight as conducted by seven-year-olds in a playground. Either way the goblin boss’ escape is thwarted.</p><p></p><p>Note, C-Fax has been calling for Big Fat Ron to surrender from the moment he first spotted the goblin boss. Ron isn’t convinced, although…</p><p></p><p>Moments later McGow and Snakebite also enter the corridor here, the dwarf reports in the common tongue-</p><p></p><p>“They’re all as dead as dead!”</p><p></p><p>Big Fat Ron understands the common tongue.</p><p></p><p>Mavis however helpfully translates McGow’s report into the goblin tongue, and then calmly asks again for Ron to surrender.</p><p></p><p>I give Mavis advantage on her check- Big Fat Ron is a survive at any cost kinda goblin, all his pals are dead, he’s surrounded and… Mavis can be so persuasive.</p><p></p><p>[ATTACH=full]405064[/ATTACH]</p><p><strong>She rolls a ‘19’ and a ‘20’, of course.</strong></p><p></p><p>The PCs dice have been on fire since they got here, McGow (I’ve just checked back) has only missed one attack roll.</p><p></p><p>It’s time for a nice cup of tea, a sit down, and a chat with Ron.</p><p></p><p>But first Travis and Snakebite go for a look about, the pair return having explored this level of the dungeon- there’s very little more to see, only a chamber that has been used in the past to keep prisoners (slaves) in.</p><p></p><p>However, a small sturdy locked chest is found- and Big Fat Ron has a key- and the one fits the other, what a turn up.</p><p></p><p>The chest is half-filled with gold coins (it gets counted later- 280 gold pieces, woo-hoo!) and atop the coin is a wand in a leather pouch- later identified by Ron, a Wand of Magic Missiles, the device was to be a gift to the big evil dude- Ka-Ah-Ar-Ah-Al-La-Ah (Karl), from the Bloody Heck.
